Before this turns into another useless political debate, I would like to see if maybe we all can band together and do something productive. With 20,000 some odd members maybe we can start a fund on behalf of PriusChat for the victims and their families.

    And ideas?

    ^ Amen.

All I can add is keep an eye for anyone you know that is a bit strange and of the "I've been wronged" mindset.

They are the most likely to unleash senseless slaughters.

I am going to do some research and see if there is any way that I can set up a fund that people can donate too online; and then we can transfer the funds at a certain date to a fund which has been already set up in Connecticut.

If anyone has any experience in this area and info would be helpful.

Good thoughts, prayers and other means of help on the way if you can put something together.

This hit very close to home as I work in education, grew up a short drive away from Newtown (even read the Newtown Bee growing up as they had great horse classifieds) and this is my home state.... this is not a town where I ever would have imagined something like this happening but I heard sadly it is towns like this where it does happen.

It happens unexpectedly - a neighboring school of mine in NY had a student come in a back door with a concealed weapon (he was let in by other students - that happens a lot more frequently [the letting a friend in part, not carrying a weapon to school] than not because kids don't want friends getting a detention and the student was the friend of children of friends of mine) and he committed suicide in the building. Again, this was a school in a rural/summer resort/lake community.

I personally met Darrell Scott some years back (he lost his daughter Rachel in the Columbine attacks) and he did several presentations at my former school. If the Rachel's Challenge program comes to your area, it is worth seeing as a student, parent or community member... it still affects how I look at life to this day.

My former boss wanted to know more about the program as it was recommended to her by principals in Long Island... and it made an impact on everyone who saw it. As I contacted the company and made the arrangements to get it to our school (our PTSA raised the funds to host it for our middle and high school communities), and as I watched kids' responses to it, even the toughest kids were brought to tears and chided their peers who laughed at them for crying. It was very real and had a ripple effect that the kids understood/still understand to this day.

Watching Darrell break down unexpectedly during the third parent/community session I saw reminded me again that no parent should ever have to lose a child and certainly not in this way. Life is too short as it is....

My heart and prayers go out to everyone in Newtown and wherever this senseless act ripples out to...

^ Thanks for the meaningful post.

Unfortunately I see this thread already beginning to spiral into the political abyss.

If I come across any charity/fund that is set up to benefit the victims I will post the results in a different thread. Otherwise I guess the trolls will be consuming this thread.

Hopefully no political agenda emerges - one can never assign a political agenda when someone experiences the personal loss of a child or family member... this comes from a mom of two boys who lost friends in drunk driving accidents and pranks that ended up not as expected and I knew both children lost personally.

The OP intended to find if there is a way to maybe send some money to the families affected and to grieve in any way we find appropriate without injecting politics, etc.

Getting away from that by 1-2 posters ruins the thread. :(

I would like to suggest that those that are interested change their PC signature for a few days to help promote the fund raiser at CrowdRise

Last night I went to my child's Christmas show at his Montessori school. Watching the little children sing "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth", with the Sandy Hook tragedy in sharp contrast, was quite a surreal experience.

Afterwards we all paused for a moment of silence for the victims. May God bless those angelic souls and may their parents find solace and peace someday...

    Guys

This thread isn't a place for the gun debate. Open up another thread for that please.

It's very sad and tragic news that such innocent children were taken in this way. It doesn't bear thinking about, even more so with Christmas coming up for the kids and families remaining.

Just bloody awful news. My heart goes out to the families.

GO AHEAD YOU TWO, RUIN THE DAMN THREAD WITH YOUR TROLLING!

Treb and Sagebrush, both of your are as bad as a dirty old man masturbating on a porn zine with your choice agenda - they control you like whatever led Adam Lanza to do his dirty deed.

It would be nice for this thread to continue as intended, but maybe we need to ask for it to be closed instead

    Thanks and Merry Christmas.

    {sigh}

If you want to offer thoughts and prayers for the families involved in this utterly disgusting and senseless tragedy please do so in this thread as asked for by the threads OP.

If you want to discuss your own feelings on guns, politics, baking cookies or anything else please do so in another thread or between yourselves via PM at this point. In case it isn't obvious the thread has been cleaned up. Don't make this a thread which needs to be closed due to a lack of self control at this point, just end it, continue talking about your feelings on guns and gun control is the MANY already existing threads or carry on personal discussions between yourselves via PM please.

This is the kind of tragedy that I hope will end in my lifetime.

The thought of the parents who will get home to all those unopened presents...

This hurts a lot of people on a lot of levels.

Imagine the people that have to recover the bodies of the dead.

And since the schoolchildren most likely did not have IDs their parents have to view their bodies for identification. :(
