    Hey guys,

I LOVE these 17" wheels but they have a +38mm offset. I plan on installing a set of either the Conti Extreme Contact DWS or Michelin Primacy MXM4's. Will this offset work on my 2012 Prius four? Most that I've seen on here are anywhere between 38-48mm so I'm a little confused. I found a car identical to mine that have the exact same wheels so I have included that pic.

Thanks in advance for your assistance with getting me situated!

If they are a 17x7" wheel it will be fine but the front will stick out ever so slightly. I wouldn't do it with a 7.5" or 8" wheel but that is just me.

OK, so you are saying that the tire will not be flush with the fender? Are you saying that it will stick out but not really all that noticeable? Yes, the wheel is 17x7. This offset stuff really sucks, would prefer the face of the tire to be flush with the fender. lol

How did you get that fuelly in your signature? I just signed up for an account but can't figure out which exact link that I need to incorporate here in my profile.

It will be almost flush but still sticking out. I had a set of 15x7 wheels with the same offset and it stuck out a tiny bit. It looks perfect in the rear. The drawback to the flush look is decreased aerodynamics and more rock chips on your door panels. :(

Check the Fuelly FAQ. It explains how to get the banner in your sig. :)

If you want flush with a 7" wheel I would stick with a 42mm offset.

I assume that the 38 would be more aero than the 42 but still look rock solid?

The higher the offset the more the wheel tucks into the wheel well. So the higher offset will be more aerodynamic. The OE Prius Five 17 has a 50mm offset.

If you really like those wheels then I say go for it. It's not going to stick out and look bad. :)

Here is a shot of my 15x7 +38mm offset wheels before lowering and a frontal shot of my 17x7 +45mm offset wheels. image.jpg image.jpg

Yeah, this stuff sucks because I have no concept to equate these numbers to how the wheel/tire will look on the car. I just found a side shot from the rear of your vehicle and it looks like the wheels are slightly inside of the fender well, especially your rear. I guess that a .45mm offset is a sweet spot with regards to looks. Who knows...

The rear is really sucked in. A +38 or even +35 offset would look better in the rear. The front maxes out at +38 to +40 IMO.

Too bad you can't get a 38 for the rear and a 43-45 for the front all in the same wheel! ;(

You can. Just find a nice wheel with a +40 or higher offset then just use spacer in the rear. ;)

Glad I have you to lean on here, didn't even think about spacers! Why did you get rid of our 38's?

Here is a shot of the 45mm. And another of the 38mm but in this one it looks flush. Must be the angles.

I got rid of the 38s because I wanted to try out another set of 17s. I really liked the look of the CT200h wheels. I liked the 17x7 and 45mm offset best. Interestingly, the same offset on a 15x6.5" wheel looks sunken in.

So again, if you love those wheels then go for it. Otherwise go with a 40-45mm wheel and add a 5mm, 10mm or 15mm spacer to the rear. A lot of guys use them and it looks nice and still allows you to rotate your wheels.

Thanks again F8L! Quick question, can the odometer and speedometer be calibrated by Toyota when 17"'s are added to ensure better accuracy?

    No.

With the 215/45/17s aired up to 45psi+ I think the odometer may read slightly faster than with the OE tires. With the 205/50/17 the odometer will read slightly slower than than the OE tires. For example, with my 205/50/17s the odometer would read 400 miles but I had traveled 407 miles. I'm going to start monitoring the odometer now that I am back on OE sized tires. If it is off I will report such.

So, I assume that the five with stock 17's are also off? One would think that if the five is "tuned" for 17's then Toyota could do the same for other models looking to add 17's. It's basically the same car, can' t be difficult! UGH!
