I am the proud new owner of a 2013 prius two. I got the Blizzard Pearl color and pulled the hub caps off; underneath was 15" black alloy wheels. I have never heard of aluminum wheels being covered up from the factory... On/Off DRL's is supposedly new for 2013, does anyone know if you can turn them on with the headlights? The switch is designed to prevent this from happening so I'm guessing some sort of modification would have to be done. In the 2012 I think the DRL's come on when the hybrid synergy drive is on. I figured with the On/Off function on the 13' you could turn them on with the headlights if you wanted to. Day time running lights are not meant to be used as fog lights, but I would like them to be on with my headlights. Any info would be appreciated.

Funny, someone asked this yesterday. No, without mods the drl's cannot come on without the headlights.

Someone in this thread took the time though to draw up schematics which should do it while reducing the intensity of the drl's since they are quite bright and honestly would blind other drivers at night.

As for how they work now and in 2012, it's the same. If they are in auto and the car is on with the headlights off they will light up. Once the headlights are on they go off.

Taking the wheel covers off will affect fuel economy on the highway. Just sayin they're there for a reason. :)

No problem. I actually think the wheels look better starting 2012 with the new wheel covers over the black rims leaving the wheel covers on. Now 2010/11... Those looked pretty bad with the covers on.

As far as I know the DRL work the same for 2012 and 2013.

The fuel economy loss without the wheel covers is negligible. It is not detectable outside a lab. :)
