    update: daytime mode video uploaded

It's been one week since the install, dash cam has been working flawlessly, no overheating issues. Parking mode, doesn't drain the 12 v Prius battery one bit. My dash cam is running 24/7, it' crystal clear, 1080p.

Have you tried to install it yet using your idea of tapping into the rear view mirror for power? I noticed on my Prius that the black cover going to the rear view mirror from the roof slides forward and reveals a cable. And, wouldn't the rear view mirror cable have power all the time because of the HomeLink buttons which should enable the auto-parking feature of the Camera?

Looks nice but no screen? How do you aim it?

Meh no need for a screen. Trial and err. It' will take one or two tries at the most. The adjustments are easy to make and you will be on your way.The screen ones are usually wireless and el cheapo to keep the price down. This has good optics, GPS and sound recording plus will automatically keep the accident files on the SD card locked. Jut take out the SD card and view the video to see if it's at the right angle and some common sense. Just my feelings.

By the way I never used any extra things when it was wired into my dash. My guy just cut the 12v plug in wire and spliced it. Never had an issue. But that was in my Lexus GX. It's a V8. Maybe this is more complex.

A screen is unnecessary (it has a very wide angle lens, just orient the lens straight forward). I have an old cheap dashcam with a screen, it really isn't that useful anyway, I'd rather grab the SD card and work with the files on my computer.

Here's a video of some stuff I've seen while driving:

Thank you for the posting, it was very useful. I just installed my camera but I have a different model (the ABEO that clips onto the rearview mirror, see the other thread on priuschat) which does the parking mode via an internal battery, so no need to connect to the permanent power supply. Therefore I simply plugged it into the cigarette lighter.

One thing I did differently is that I routed it over the passenger side, not the driver side. The main reason is that there is a knee air bag on the driver side that I did not want to route the cable over to the cigarette lighter. No air bag on the passenger side so no concern.

The cable on the dashcam also exits on the passenger side but that was a minor bonus.

    Did you get another Dashcam?
Or is there a reason you don't need it anymore?
Are you selling the smart-plus version?

I know this is an old thread, but did you ever have any problems with the parking mode/12v battery in the year or so you had the cam installed? Did the 12v ever discharge too much?
