Hi! I am selling a slightly used Enginer 4KW plug-in hybrid system . I bought the kit about 1 1/2 years ago and installed it on my 2004 Toyota Prius, used it for several months, but then removed it because I did not have a commute where it would be most useful. It's been sitting for a while in my garage and now I would like to sell it. The battery management system caused me some issues and may need to be replaced after some time for greatest efficiency (about $300?), but the batteries and DC/DC inverter are virtually new. Please email me at ken dot friesen at sbcglobal dot net or call me at 559-800- four three five zero for more information. I live in Fresno but still have the shipping boxes for delivery (about $200). Thanks!
    Ken

Sorry for not including those details. It uses the RealForce batteries. The BMS is 3.3.

I think it is version 5 but I am not positive - is there a designation on the battery or kit?

In order for me personally to be in a mindset to BUY.. I need to know what you have.! Enginer is no longer being sold on EBAY or via there old, dated, defunct website. If you have images of the kit would be helpful. My avatar is a enginer BMS for a 4kw side view

I'd really rather sell the whole thing as a unit. Thanks for asking!

I am asking $2200. I might be willing to go down if I have no other offers, but I'm also not in a hurry to sell it so I'll see how things go.

So it is a version 5 kit. Being a year and a half old well before the version 6 came out. The hot weather in a Texas summer will probably cause thermal shutdowns of the version 5 converter whereas the version 6 has improved cooling efficiency and will probably not shutdown.

It may be a better idea to buy a Version 6 DC Converter from Sushp.

    Hi lopezjm2001,

I am in the UK across the pond, and we dont see the temperaures that you do over there (mores the pity though).
I too have the ver 5 kit, with the realforce batteries. Is there a major difference between the converters in relation to the cooloing? I would rather mod mine if i thought cooling issues would cause failures, maybe i could mod the inverter top cover and attach a few more 48v cooling fans, what do you think i could do to improve it so to try to eliminate any future cooling problems.

    Thanks

You are located in a cold climate. I think that in summer the temperature does not get much higher than 25deg.C. At 25deg.C you should not see any thermal shutdowns of a version 5 converter unless airflow of your converter is blocked. But in your case you should not need to add cooling devices. Most of your year is winter.

Depending on how your kit was installed it may be possible to do something to improve airflow. The version 6 Enginer kit does not use a metal box and hence uses an open architecture so airflow is less of an issue.

    Thanks for the reply lopez,
where the enginer case fans exhaust air exits the case, i have left off the prius boot side plastic covers to allow the air to vent away easier in the hope that cooling is better, I do hear the converter fans come on and i have placed my hand on the converter when they fans are running to see how hot it is, but thus far doesnt get hot to touch, but i am still thinking of doing something to it as a preventative measure though.

    Thanks, Anthony
