Prius v base Head unit replacement

If you were expecting a DIY project then why don't you dig into it? Surely this is not your first excursion into a dash?
There are a number of videos on youtube if you search "prius + stereo". Probably no different from many other cars. Once you get it opened up it should be a matter of unplugging-replugging. How bad can it be?

 

I haven't been into a Prius yet. Study up on any videos out there; even those that don't pertain to a Prius.
Don't know about the antenna.
Buy tools to get trim off. Better than screwdrivers or knives! I use this one a lot.
Take pics of how things come apart. Good luck.

 

Check out www.toyota-tech.eu and search for owner, accessory installation manuals. This helped me greatly on my previous 2010 hatchback. Most panels come off easily with a pull, but a few hidden ones have a bolt or two.

It is an instructional thread on installing the Navigation Speed Lock Override, which guides you through taking your head unit out.

One thing I'd like to point out is that the gps in the head unit needs a signal from the car to tell it how fast it's going so the car can figure out dead reckoning and to automatically lock out the controls when you are moving. The navigation speed lock override basically tells the head unit that the car is going zero miles per hour so it doesn't lock you out of the controls for you safety. If your car doesn't have that wire going into the harness then you may be out of luck, but I would guess it would have the same wiring and harness to save on manufacturing costs. As I said without the speed indication your gps will constantly think your speed is zero so it won't adjust your position as you drive and every few seconds or so the gps will try to re-calibrate your position and it can get really screwy and annoying. It may just be a matter of trying it out to see if it works.
