I need a bike rack for my Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon). I am concerned about using my Tule strap-on rack as it would mean pulling down hard on the rear spoiler as I mounted the rack using hooks at the hinge top and under the pumper. Tule says it wouldn't be a problem, but it just seems the stress could crack the spoiler plastic or pull it away from the frame. Other possibility is a hitch rack, I guess. I don't want to use a roof top rack. Any one had any experience? I'd only be carrying one or two bikes.

I had a Saris Bones 3 bike rack that worked on my Accord and Civic but not on the Prius v. The spoiler does compromise the stability. It would also make the bikes sit way too high. The solution was easy. I got a hitch from Etrailer. It fits perfectly, was easy to install, and is barely visible when the rack is not connected. The quality for the price seemed to be a smart buy. I have a good friend who is an amazing welder, who could not do it better or cheaper. Then I sold the Saris and replaced it with the Yakima Double Down 2 Ace bike rack. I too only need to haul 2 bikes...but they make them for more if needed. It has a very nice locking mechanism so I don't need to worry about someone stealing the bikes and the rack in one move.
