Android Phone Bluetooth disconnect???

    Anyone else having this recurring issue? I have an android phone (Motorola Atrix 4G), and it bluetooth syncs fine with my Prius C One, however when I am driving on the freeway, it will occasionally disconnect for several minutes, then reconnect.

    It's annoying because I use my phone as my personal Ipod and I can't stand listening to the radio, and without fail, every-time I drive in heavy traffic, it will disconnect and I'll have silence for a few minutes till it reconnects.

    I have a theory, it could be that other vehicles on the road are also using bluetooths and somehow there is interference with all the different bluetooth microwaves being shot out?

    Does anyone else experience this? Is it my phone? Does the Iphone have this same issue? I can't upgrade my phone till February and I plan to get an Iphone, but for the time being I guess I'll have to use an Auxiliary cable instead of bluetooth.

    I haven't had that exact problem, but I have had twice where when I turn on the car my phone will connect for calling but wont for media or data. The third time I used the car, all three (phone, data, and media) connected fine, but never disconnects, unless I make it disconnect. My phone is a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx with android ver. 4.04

    Have a Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 on AT&T.

    To Nate: It's possible, but unlikely it's being caused by interference from another Bluetooth device. The technology uses a frequency rotation technique that changes 1600 times per second, so it it would be extremely rare that any two devices would share the same frequency. You might want to consider a download to a USB thumb drive of all the phone's music as backup if the problem cannot be solved. You also might find that much more convenient as it allows use of the audio system's browse, search, and voice commands, while Bluetooth doesn't.

    To shawnfrontier: Before the Ice Cream Sandwich update, Bluetooth worked flawlessly with my C, automatically pairing and syncing as soon as I turned the car on - both phone and audio. Music would even start playing where it left off. After the update, it's all different. Pairing is intermittent. The phone will connect automatically 90% of the time. The audio hardly ever. Audio will rarely connect without me manually asking it to. Even when audio connects on it's own, I have to go into the phone, start the music player, start a song, stop it and start it again, to get music to play through Bluetooth. Still haven't figured that one out. Even after deleting the pairings, and all the music and starting over from scratch, it's still not consistent.

    Mine does this all the time. I have a 20 minute commute ( 8 miles ) to and from work, some days it will stay connected the whole time, other days it will disconnect 2-3 times. Since I use Pandora, if it disconnects more than once I usually do not turn the music back on. My part time weekend job is a 45 minute commute, I do not think I have ever made that trip without it disconnecting at least once. I have a samsung illusion, it was a basic free smartphone. Entune was not ready for primetime when it was released, its not only the disconnect issue, but there are a LOT of bugs in the system even after the two software updates it has received. Hopefully the next one will fix this issue...

    You basically described exactly what is happening to me. I commute 17 miles to work (about 30 minutes) and it's a miracle if I can make that trip without it disconnecting once. The problem is once it disconnects, even if I disable bluetooth, then re-enable it, it still won't connect. Then it will magically reconnect after like 5-10 minutes. It's become such a problem that once it disconnects, I simply switch modes to my CD player. Since the bluetooth works by frequency hopping, I can rule out that it's other motorists bluetooths' interfering.

    My phone is older though, Android version 2.3.6, so perhaps updating the phone might help alittle bit? How do you go about updating the prius's Etune firmware? How can I view which version I am running? I have a Prius C One, so the LCD display is very basic.

    The USB idea is a nice backup plan, but I would really prefer to use the phone since I have a dashmounted charger for it and I use it as my Navigation system as well as my MP3 player, would rather have everything rolled up into one.

    The Entune firmware was updated by a USB stick I received in the mail. If you purchased your PriC after the update was sent I am pretty sure they do this at the dealer before you take possession of the vehicle. After this upgrade however, now entune connects to the internet though the device to download and install updates. I am not sure how to determine if you are using the most recent version of the firmware.
