I have only had my Prius for a couple weeks but I have done a lot of reading and learning on these forums and I practice my driving habits every time I am in the car. Yesterday I had to do a few in-town errands and unfortunately one of them was a distance from the house so I decided to take real advantage of it and practice my Prius habits.

I chose a specific N-S road for my drive home because I knew it was on a slight downhill grade and wanted to use it to my advantage. When I pulled into the garage and turned the car off to my surprise in 11.5 miles I achieved 63.3 MPG, :D my new personal best. Not bad for a newb on a cold day ..... I am almost due to fill up the tank for the first time so we will see what Fuelly says this weekend for my MPGs on the entire tank.

Nice work! I managed a 61.1 before the weather turned cold here in MN. My 1st two takes have been below 40mpg but I am trying to keep that in perspective... my Corolla would have been in the high 20's and my Forester gets 19 this time of year.

Watching my trip odometer it looks like I will get about 43 MPG on my first tank. What a difference from the 16 MPG I was getting before I switched.

Those wheels and tires will hurt fuel economy (4+) but they are safer than the OE 15s and they sure look nice. :)

    I know (n)
But I did like the 17s on the car, I actually made the dealer park a standard Prius next to the Plus so I could make my decision, it didn't take long.

Next I need to get the windows tinted.

I've got the 17s on our Gen 3, package five. I'm we'll aware of the MPG hit for the 17s, compared to 15s, and the performance advantage of the 17s, but I didn't know the 17s were safer. Are you referring to improved handling (cornering) for the 17s, or is their some other safety aspect that I've missed?

Yes, improved handling during emergency response maneuvers as well as braking distance. The tires (Michelin Primacy MXM4) that come on the Performance Plus Package are quite good! They are better than the Toyo Proxes A20 that come on the Five. Unfortunately they are not as fuel efficient.
