And the weight is much farther away from the hub so it takes a lot more energy to turn it.

How many miles do you drive each year? Have you calculated the actual economic loss? At less than 15,000 miles/yr a 4mpg loss is not much when translated into dollars. :)

18.25 lbs isn't so terrific for a 15", is it. I wonder how much the wheel would weigh without all those flying buttresses.

It's not great at all BUT it is semi-aerodynamic. If you take away all of those "flying buttresses" then you lose aero which is arguably just as important as weight for steady state driving. Stop and go or city driving not so much. So for freeway driving, I would rather have better aerodynamics and higher weight then lower weight and terrible aero (think thin 5 spokes). I'd love to see a test done on smooth wheel covers vs. the 2012-2013 and PIP wheels. Some results from Ecomodder.com suggest a 4%-5% improvement on other vehicles.

That also brings up the question, if weight is so important, why did the PIP get heavier wheels when the car was designed for short trips in the city? Hmmmm :)

With the Factory Rims/Tires were getting 530-540 miles per Tank. With the 18's we put on we're getting around 420 miles a Tank. Plus we CAN'T Hyper Glide anymore, That was the big Killer, Because Hyper Gliding is what makes the Prius a Fun/Economical car to drive

    Those 18" Alpina's are likely 28+lbs each. :(

Yeah, that 40lbs or more additional at the wheels. No wonder.

It makes for a VERY sluggish feeling Prius. :( Yet another reason I went back to the 15s. They make the car feel fast--er. lol

SLUGGISH ??? ''''''Not In The Least !!!'''''''' Far more stable at higher speeds. Would i do it over , No. But would go with a Rim/Tire that's closer to the factory width.

The CAI helped to make up the power loss.:sneaky:

My 17 " OEM wheels have one slightly bent on the edge, but I get to drive in New York City which is like waging war. The higher profile tires and smaller wheels are probably much more fogiving of unfilled potholes.

That looks strange with the factory springs & larger wheels, drop that sucker on Eibach or TRD springs & it will look 100% better. ;) That wheel gap looks huge!

''Can't,'' 4 adults on a Costco run some times the back wheels rub. so if anything you'll be doing lifting spacers in the rear.

    Then here are some options.....

    1. Don't go with 4 adults.
    2. Buy less.
    3. Use a bigger car.
    4. Take 2 cars.
    5. Buy wheels with a better offset.
    6. Roll your fenders.
    7. Don't go to Costco.

      ;)

Best advice.. If u don't care about mileage that much and want a different look just make sure you get runs that fit correctly!!!! I hate seeing cars with wrong offsets!!

Too wide is better than too narrow
