2005 Prius 155k miles - Needs Traction Battery and ECUs

Let us know the outcome. What are you leaning toward just curious?

 

Just a suggestion. The car is a 2005. It is 8 years old and 155,000 miles. Why not take that $4,300 + Tax + Trade in on the 2005 and apply it as a down paymnet on a new car. Just thinking that an 8 year old car how much more time before other things start going wrong. A new Prius C is what 21K, plus 0% interest financing now from Toyota. No headaches. The payment may be very low just a few hundred $ a month. May be worth looking into it.

 

I don't sell Prius. I'm in IT. But I just make the suggestion because I had a BMW that was killing me on repairs and maintenance and I just decided to get a new car and it was worth it just not to have problems and more. After I traded the car is although it required many repairs my payment was very low and now I have happy motoring for another decade. 5 Grand to fix your old Prius not worth it. Cut the cord.

 

I think Costco has a good deal you get fleet pricing, could save you 2-3 Grand off the sticker. Shop around you'll get a deal.

I also live in Tampa. There is Mellor's automotive in Melbourne which is hybrid specialist. I suggest you contact them. I don't have personal experience with them but heard very good things about them. One friend of mine had his battery changed for just over $1000.

 

Personally I think it's worth getting getting the battery replaced. Many Prius are still very reliable after 150k miles, so you might well get quite a few more years of relatively trouble free use out of it. Also, I don't buy the story about all the ECU's needing replacing. Several members here have given good reports about Mellor's so I think it would be worthwhile letting them take a look.
