I'm seeing a lot of flu stories. How is everyone doing?

We're in Huntsville AL, about 70 miles south of the Tennessee line. I got the flu shot in October, my wife two weeks ago.

Friday I woke up with a body ache that ran through Saturday and a lot of sleeping but no fever. No malaise, cough or sneezing. At first I was wondering if maybe a kidney stone since it seemed mostly a back ache. I'm feeling much better today and the body ache is gone.

My wife is fine and my understanding the protection peaks at three weeks. So she should be Ok.

I haven't noticed a lot of staff outages but then I've been stuck in the lab the past week.

I got my flu shot from my local VA hospital back in October and luckily I've been good thus far, along with the wife who got hers in October as well from CVS. My son had his too and even being 6 in a school where others have had it he too has thus far escaped the flus grasps.

Not so lucky here in New England... I can personally attest this is a nasty version of the dreaded virus.

I got my shot back in November as I am a type 1 diabetic/asthmatic, working in a school. Coworker comes in to work over the holiday break with a positive test for the flu, no shot and family members with the dreaded "puke bug." Lots of hand sanitizer and disinfecting my space and anything else I touched did not work. Flu is "widespread" here. Hospital has flu cases waiting overnight in the ER for beds that are already filled with patients that have the flu.

Friday AM it came on suddenly like a kick from my Thoroughbred. No mistaking the fever/chills, body aches, cough and the feeling like one got hit by a freight train...coupled with a lot of sleep but on Sunday I was finally firing on all cylinders... hoping that the shot staved off the worst of it. Actually was well enough to take a short walk on the beach today.

A plus to the flu - living on popsicles and diet ginger ale gets rid of some unwanted weight quickly....

Now battling insomnia... and have to start my Monday in two hours. :(

Next time wear a mask -- or even better, put the mask on the sick co-worker.

I haven't noticed or heard of any doctors in the hospital where I work that have been out. I did see one ED doctor wearing a mask (to protect others) but he did not look ill, so it was more likely to have been another bug. I don't know the data on nurses, although it would be interesting to compare the two groups since nurses as a group are quite a bit less likely to get vaccinated than physicians.

A lot of the flu virus in NC. A hospital in Wilmington is limiting visitation for children under 12 due to the virus. Hospital is also checking for workers that have not had the flu shot.

I had my flu shot at work and had the head cold and cough during the holidays but avoided the flu. This is typical for me and the flu shot. I will get symptons but the flu will not set in.

I missed a flu shot a few years ago during the shortage and sure enough I went to bed with the flu. Every year I have taken the flu shot I have dodged the flu bug. I am a big believer in the flu shot !

no shots here and we haven't heard or seen anyone with it. a lot of hype in the media seems to be surrounding some very intense epidemic in the inner city and er's have been overwhelmed with cases.

I work in Phoenix and almost half my dept at work during the past 3 weeks (last week being the worst) have been sick what they claim was the flu.
We have 25 people in our dept.
My dad got hit hard with the flu a couple weeks ago.
I got my flu shot back in August when it came out. So far I am okay.

    So far.....so good.
I don't think that I've ever had the real flu in my adult life, but I've had a few low order ick days since T-giving that I have treated with OTC drugs. This is also the first year in my adult life that I've ever has a choice of whether or not I "wanted" to get a flu shot. I've been retired from the part time gig for some months now, so my (now) full time employer picks up the $25 flu shot tab which is probably the best $25 each that they spend over tens of thousands of employees.
    If you're in the military?
Sometimes.....ONLY SOMETIMES you get a choice with the flu shot:
    Left arm or Right? :D

If you're under 50 and "you don't do shots"...inquire about the mist.
    Me?
I'd rather just have the injection.
Thank GOD they did away with those %$#@! pneumatic injectors!!!

    Stay safe out there!
...and if you're sick? STAY HOME!!! ;)

Hope it doesn't affect you and yours... apparently there are three nasty strains going around and the vaccine only covered one from what I am hearing at work.

I get a flu shot every year, so far so good! I tend to avoid sick folk who are dumb enough to show up for work. A call to company nurse, she makes a visit, sick person goes home until better. Why on earth would you want to be the cause of your entire work force all calling in sick at the same time because you were generous enough to spread your disease around!
They are called SICK DAYS for a reason!
If you are self employed, I feel bad for you, but not bad enough to let you infect me with a possibly fatal disease!

The flu and the "puke bug" are not stuff I'd mess around with, got exposed to both and got both in a public system. "We all got to work and eat", unfortunately. Hoping by the time I retire my immune system will repel radiation.

Luckily I am too mean and nasty to be down more than two days from some microscopic entity. Got a staph infection in my knee some years ago, doc said it could have killed me and I said no, I am meaner than any crap his petri dish coughed up. For my smart-assed remark I got a PICC line and IV antibiotics for three months even though my sediment rates lowered by the time I was released after a week's stay as a guest of the hospital:rolleyes: .

...here VA/PA/NJ/MD/WV we seem to all be getting a bad cold that won't go away.
No fever so it is not seeming to be flu, or else it is a moderated flu since we mostly all had the flu shot.
Xmas everyone in the house had this the next day or two.

Hard to say. There have been 3 or 4 illnesses going around my office recently in Kentucky. But our weather, being Kentucky, has had fun going from 65/70 degrees to 30 on multiple occasions. My dad had a lingering bug that wasn't fully flu-like for over a week. I've felt off but not terrible. That is, until I came home early from work yesterday and threw my back out for the first time....

I'm the only one in this week in my department. Everyone else is out with the flu. It is so eerie here with it just being me. They all went and got the free flu shots through our employer. I'm the only one that didn't and I'm just fine. Awe crap... better knock on wood.

The department down the hall has only about 25% of their people in. I told them all not to come down here. I have a can of lysol and I'm not afraid to use it!!!!
