I have a Prius C1. One feature from the higher trim levels I want to add is the light in the hatch back area. This should be simple and I'd bet the wires in already in place.

    Anyone tried?

Is there a spot for the lamp in the C1? If not you would probably be better off just adding an aftermarket interior light - you can wire it to a switch with a timer or use a relay so it turns on when the hatch opens.

I have heard that toyota did not run wires in the C1 to places where it would not be used (rear speaker locations do not have wires run to them from what I have read).

Whether the wires exist or not, adding an aftermarket light would probably cost less than $20 total.

Just tap into the same switch used to let the ecu know when your hatch is open (displays the warning on the color display)?

That is why I think they must have run a wire already. There is a plastic cover that might cover the hole where the light goes. I'm guessing there is a toyota part that simply plugs in. I need to look at "C" that has the light.

Is there an on-line Toyota parts database or Prius C technical/service manual?

I took a cover off but saw nothing inside. I don't know if I took off the correct cover. This is a question I'll ask the dealer next time I go in to get the tires rotated.

Take a look at the picture I took when I had my trunk interior off to do sound dampening :) . The picture from the trunk/hatch area, same side as the driver. I found 2 taped up connectors, that I circled and labeled A and B. I've just use the volt meter, and found that the A connector has 11.6v (might be useful for back up camera? :) . Was not able to read the B yet, but my guess it probably for the hatch light?. I have a C1. Anyone have suggestion for a decent interior light?

What light would work? I bet there is a Toyota part that exactly fits some place. I'm going to ask the parts guy at the dealer next time I get a chance

The connector you circled "A" is connector M7 for the "No. 1 Luggage Compartment Light Assembly". The light blue wire is powered by the Main Body ECU. The black wire is grounded through a switch in the Back Door (Hatch) Lock Assembly.
The connector you circled "B" is Junction Connector M46, which is a ground bus.

So what you are sayig is that a stock Toyota "No. 1 Luggage Compartment Light Assembly" should simply plug in and just work. That is good. I'll buy the part

if i cant easily find a opening to place an actual light unit, ill just wire in like 1 or 2 led strips and wire them into the front dome light

I ended up using the cargo connector in the back of the car, and it worked great. I didn't have any black wire around so don't mind the two red wires in the picture. The tape was used to just keep it out of the way and in a secure spot while connecting my diy connector together. followed by heat shrink since it wasn't a clip connector. Nice and snug and rather bright too.

I'll add a pic of the light location in a few. I had no flash on for the night photo however so I'm quite happy with the results.

The light was 14.99 at autozone as well as some extra heat shrink just in case i couldn't find any. Also the connector I'm referring to is the one mentioned above circled A in case anyone else decides to do the same thing.

One with the light on in the day, and with the hatch closed. It's not too hard and was worth the hour or so I spent. Most of that time deciding on how to run the wire really could be done in about 20 mins.

does the "cargo connector" have the same function as the dome light?
on and off with the door activation along with the fade feature?

If its the same one in the prius 2, then yes.

I wonder if I could extend the cargo connection to create a backseat light....

If you open the hatch on the driver side that interior panel comes out easily. The connector will be pretty much one of two connectors showing less the taillamp.

So is one of these lights over the seatbelt in the rear passenger area? Looks that way... I've been wanting to add a rear dome light in my C. So you wired this to the wires in the rear trunk door? Is that right?
