I purchased the 2012 Prius C One about 4 months ago and I was just curious if it's possible to upgrade my stereo head display unit? Has anyone attempted this with an aftermarket type touchscreen display?

Is it more hassle than it's worth? I currently use my cell phone with bluetooth to play MP3's and GPS and whatnot, but it's buggy at best and disconnects at will. I should have just got the Prius C Three model, but $1,800 for a better head unit seems a bit outrageous when you can go aftermarket and pay a fraction of that.

Looking at the new Etune software updates, those touchscreen displays are very nice now with iheartradio/pandora/bing search/ ect...

Yes, it is possible. I read and followed these 2 threads below. I ended up sound dampening the lower body of the car, replaced the speakers with Alpine, and the pioneer-avic-z140bh :) But I have not integrate the microphone, still using the HU microphone. The pioneer traffic tuner on my unit is not working, so have to removed it, but I can live without the traffic tuner :) Next will be install the back up camera.

Although possible, out of curiosity, what does Etune do that's better a smartphone? My Android (HTC Evo LTE) phone is one of the reasons that I didn't get the Prius (3). Pandora has lots of problems, iHeart Radio is just… radio and Google Maps is unrivaled--actually, I also use Waze for traffic warnings and now sounds like my Prius C warns me in a sexy female voice (just what I always wanted). I also have buddy that uses some sort of HTC tablet in his Prius. For streaming music I used TuneIn Radio, WINAMP and Songza. Plus, if I discover another music app, it'll fit right in. I really am just curious because what I've read about Etune doesn't sound very impressive for the cost.

You got a good point about Etune, the more I hear about it, the more people are complaining.

I'm just tired of the buggy bluetooth sync in my Prius C One, my phone cannot stay connected to my prius for more than 10-15 minutes (Android Motorola Atrix 4G). I'm going to take it in for my 6 month Toyota care checkup and maybe they can offer a solution to my bluetooth sync issues, or maybe update the firmware on it or something. It could just be my phone, but I won't know for sure till I'm eligable to upgrade to an Iphone 5 in February, only a couple weeks away!

I'll have to look into Waze, I've just been using google maps with live traffic lately but it doesn't warm me of potential traffic more than a few miles down the road, so I'm constantly getting slammed in traffic (SoCal, ugh).

Yeah, I use Waze and Google Maps in combination for the reasons you mentioned. The only thing about Waze is that it's nowhere near as refined as Google maps. But there's a rumor that Apple is buying Waze so they're probably going to polish it a little more.

Bluetooth: I went through some BT woes and yes, it is frustrating. My HTC Evo LTE would not pick up the CAR AUDIO after the Jelly Bean update and there are many users complaining about BT after the JB update. That was my phone's problem. My phone was still within warranty so Sprint sent me another that did not Jelly Bean yet--surprise! BT works like a champ and it always stays connected. This website Toyota.com - Connect let's you check if your phone's compatible.

    Good luck!
