unsure whether I should buy a Prius b/c I'm used to a trunk at ambient temp

    It's physics. Lighter colors reflect more light than darker colors. It's just like wearing white clothes or black clothes on a sunny day.

    You misunderstood my question (or perhaps my question was unclear). I was asking that question to a poster who had written, "I have measured the temp of the exterior of different paint colors sitting on a Car Dealership this past Summer and it varies by 50 degress depending on the color (obviously white is the lowest temp and black is the hottest)."

    i.e. he measured the exterior temperature of different colors. I would like to find out how the interior temp varied with the exterior color.

    This. It's playing with fire to keep perishable food in the car for any extended period. And I seriously question whether a trunk stays at "ambient." A trunk is not a substitute for an ice chest, or at the very least those large insulated bags made for the purpose.

    I measured the temperature inside my trunk, and it was only slightly higher than the ambient temperature.

    Trust me, your trunk doesn't stay at ambient temperature during extreme hot summer days. You are better off driving home with the AC blowing and at least keeping your groceries a little cooler on the way home than they would be if they were in the trunk.
