so I have owned my V 3 since 1/13/2013. I have never driven it where I have not filled up the gas on the last pip of the fuel level gauge. So is there a gas light? Has anybody driven there vee empty? Just curious.

When the estimated range gets to 10 miles, I see a dash light. It looks like an orange gas pump, across from E

I have not run my car to empty*, but I have been about 25 miles past 0 estimated miles, and I put in 10.5 gallons.

    * On my Gen 2, various bad things happened when it was run to empty, I do not need to repeat that mistake.

Great reply dialing_wand. I never hope to see the "E" light, but it's nice to know one exists. Probably in the manual too, but I haven't read the fuel part yet--too many other things in that big book.

    Thanks,

    Jack

    Hi Jimbo:

I see that you purchased a 2012 Prius v (model three). Did it come with 15" or 16" rims? I purchased the model five and just hate the 17" rims. The whole wage rides rough and that is putting it mildly. I test-drove a model three and it was great. Didn't have time to test-drive my model five before I bought it. Assumed the ride was as good as the model three...........Well, that was smart wasn't it?

    6.5J x 16 in. wheels with Michelin P205/60R16 tires.

Perhaps you can find some young man who thinks image is more important than performance and wants bigger wheels.

The v wheels do not fit other Prius. 114x5 instead of 100x5

    Great pics Dialing_wand.
We did the same last weekend, the fuel light came on and we took it down to 17km of empty (10 miles) and it took 10.5 gal US. I believe the manual states 11.8gal or 11.9gal which roughly gives a 60mile or 100 km buffer. We always carry a 2 gal jerry can with us as we live rural and all the driving is highway. I too, was curious if we had the light, the manual does show the light, but hard to find.

Was the bad things that the fuel pump burned up? On newer cars, the pump is sometimes internal to the tank and actually cooled by the fuel so you definitely don't want to run the tank anywhere near dry. I don't know if that is true of the v.
