How about this rear bumper sticker? It covers side to side and is mostly clear with the Prius printing. It's made out of material like that 3M clear film people put on their front ends :)

Update: The 12v battery was indeed the only problem and was replaced under warranty by Toyota of Morristown (kudos to them). Shipper picked up the car today and now just need to wait for it to get to CA!

    LoJacked Part Deux

Got my quote and time frame from DAS yesterday and got my contract from Toyota of Turnersville today, but all was not Kosher. Here is my response to the two folks who handled my deal that went south today after I called and talked to the sales person who handled my negotiation and totally botched contract:

If you read the email string below my note from Tuesday 1/29 explicitly asks for verification or the LOJACK add on:
"I want to verify that the LoJack remains, but at a $195 charge above your original quote of $38, 414 instead of the $695 add on I was originally told it would cost me." I made sure that email was on all of my messages to you.

The $195 price was based on the "few hundred off" that I was told the manager was willing to do. I made sure to ask "so $500 off the $695?" (To which he responded "yes - $500") I said, "I can live with that and make the deal" though I didn't want or need LoJack.

When I received the contract today the LoJack charge was $500 not $195 that I agreed to both verbally and in the electronic document below. If I hadn't sent so many electronic requests to both manager and sales consultant for verification of this price, it would be understandable.

In addition I was charged sales tax at the incorrect rate of 8.46% when my local sales rate is 8%.

Toyota of Turnersville should be a little more careful about reading before responding to customer emails and checking tax rates when making deals across state lines.

Principle over Prius in this case.
I am going to hope in one hand for a February California incentive or go with the lower MPG and lower priced CMAX in the other. Wanted the Prius PIP Advanced, but this deal went lame and the TFS incentive is scheduled to end Monday.

So Turnersville isn't willing to fix things? Dealers make paperwork mistakes all the time. All that's important is if they are willing to honor your deal or not. Also, a direct line of communication to a manager is usually most efficient. Salespeople themselves have no power and tend to make all kinds of mistakes.

Btw I would be quite surprised if the incentive did not get extended.

I wouldn't be surprised either if it were extended.

I ain't signing a doc that has the wrong tax rate amount embedded in financing coupled with an add on that I didn't want and negotiated down to a smaller amount.

They did tell me they would cut me a check, but my good faith has pretty much been maxed and the idea of signing a contract based on incorrect line items and total tax rate is a non-starter.

Salesman called back and told me, "we'll just have to cut you a check." For the tax overcharge, for the LoJack overcharge, for the tax overcharge based on too large a total price.

    Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah bud.

At almost $40k taxable a .5 percent tax error isn't a fuggetaboutit to me. If you can't do a negotiated deal at the negotiated price don't do it. I guess the nickle and dime b.s. works most of the time.

yeah they should just redo the contract. seems ridiculous they won't – definitely feels shady.

Can't you find one on the west coast? What about ordering one? Prius only takes 30 days from Japan to Portland port/accessory installs to Midwest. Should be sooner for west coast destinations :)

I think brimwj did the right thing. Sleazebags like Turnersville don't deserve your business.

If you want alternative leads, Maguire Toyota in Ithaca NY was very straight-forward in my email exchanges with them and offered a very good price on a gray pip advanced. Dorschel Toyota in Rochester, NY was fairly straightforward; they had extra fees, but the overall price was still not bad (blue or silver).

Steve's automall in Bristol, CT gave me a good price ($3,800 + 400 fee). They still have a silver pip advanced. They've been fairly straight. The finance guy tried talking me into the add-on warranty, tried to sneak in a $168 charge for VIN etching on my paperwork, and left out the free bumper appliqué on my paperwork. They quickly backed off when I complained. Same refund story for the $168 (plus tax), but I handwrote both items on my purchase order and on my installment contract. You really cannot rely on or enforce verbal promises.

This was all just from going to websites and requesting email quotes. Sometimes you get a decent offer that way. Maybe I could do better making phone calls, but I'd rather not. I have the impression the incentives have worked in reducing inventory, but there are lots and lots of dealers in NY, CT and NJ, and some of them have extra PIPS that have been sitting around for a long time.

For some reason, they all insist on fedexing docs instead of just sending pdfs. Takes time to redo, reprint, etc. and extra time and expense sending them back and forth. I do think some of their "errors" are deliberate. That lojack thing was particularly egregious.

People are trying to take advantage of $6,500 cash rebates that are only available in NY, CT and NJ (on top of better prices some east coast dealers give, due to lesser demand and too much inventory compared to the West coast.

Hey bought mine there as well but struggling to get ca dmv done? Do you have to do a VIN check when back in Calif? And then new rochelle got you the plates? And how much did you pay the dealer for the ca registration? Agree no switch and bait
