This forum is very informative! Just in the last 2 days of lurking I have learned multiple things...like not to "top off" my tank and how the ECO works, etc etc! So firstly, thanks for that!

Here's our story - My wife and I just purchased matching C2's 2 days ago! Here's how it all transpired: We both had older vehicles - her a 98 Honda CRV (198,000 miles) and I a 2002 Mazda B2300 pickup (230,000 miles). Well her transmission was going out. Had to do something. Went car shopping, which neither of us had done in over 10 years - ended up at the local (central Texas) Toyota dealership looking at a Rav 4 because it was close to the same as her CRV. That's where we met the friendliest, least pushy sales person I have ever come across (Lauren W at Atkinson Toyota in Bryan, TX!). She showed us pretty much everything Toyota offers. When we saw the Moonglow Prius C we both really liked it and couldn't believe the listed MPG. Took one for a test drive and still liked it.

Went home to think about it and her CRV transmission just got worse and worse quickly. Meanwhile I was on the dealership website and noticed they had a "web special" for a Habanero C2 at their *other* location 50 miles away for an insane price. I emailed Lauren and inquired about it. See the local college (Texas A&M, where my wife and I both attended undergrad...as did pretty much everyone in this area) has school colors of maroon & white. ORANGE is apparently very unpopular b/c the rival school UT is "burnt orange". Burnt orange is not Habanero, but still - apparently they couldn't unload it and had slashed the price more than even the other 2012's. Well I was interested. I'm the type of personality who would totally drive a bright orange car! I commute for work 4 days a week 50 miles away, so that's 100+ miles a day. I calculated my Mazda B2300 MPG and it was just over 23. Not great. Got to looking at our monthly gas budget and running the numbers and well, we decided to buy TWO Prius C's! She got the white "Moonglow" and I bought the considerably cheaper Habanero, which I LOVE. She's in grad school so we got an extra Toyota incentive of $1000 off her C2. They took our trade of the Honda CRV even though I was very forthright and told them all about the transmission problem (otherwise the car was in GREAT shape! New tires, new brakes, new radiator, plugs, etc etc, no ripped seats...VERY clean for 198,000 miles). So that was great! They knew the transmission had problems and took it for a decent trade-in anyway, which we were very happy about.

So we drove off with matching Prius C2's. Well, matching except for the color. I love my loud Habanero and the white matches her more subdued personality perfectly haha. The two little ones who still live at home (oldest is in college) were THRILLED. A new car is pretty fun (let alone 2!), and neither of them were born last time we bought a new car haha. I sold my B2300 to my dad.

I've driven to and from work 2 days so far and got 47MPG. Well that beats 23 by quite a bit.

Wow that was a LOT longer than I thought it would be! Apologies if I broke some code about a 1st post being lengthy. I enjoyed reading the other "newbie" posts, so I figured "why not?"

Welcome to PriusChat! I owned my two Prius consecutively rather than in parallel, but I hope you like yours as much as I have liked mine!

Super. Glad you got two great deals and that both of you are as happy as most other C owners. This is a good site with lots of friendly advise and information.

Well that is a good point... you two ought to sign up with Fuelly.com and keep track. It would be interesting to see.

That's pretty awesome- I'm jealous. You guys are going to be a super-green household, hardly using any gas at all. Keep doing research on how to increase your fuel economy- and remember, on the freeway, speed kills mpg!

Thanks for the well wishes! Loving the cars so far!

My commute is not really a "freeway", more like a curvy country highway!

A curvy country highway is a perfect place for super-good, 60+ mpg.

I wouldn't bet on your wife beating you at the mileage game. Before all the cold winter weather started, I got around 50 mpg consistently with a mix of city, rural, and highway driving.

I agree with the other post about the C not liking short trip. My commute to work is only 2 miles in town and that's usually the worst mileage I get.

    Welcome to the family!

+1 - I actually get better mileage with mixed driving. Just driving around town and not on the freeway = lower MPG.

The worse mileage I get is when the freeway clogs up bumper to bumper - generally an accident or a pedestrian overpass collapsing (no kidding!) or some other nonsense. The battery runs down and the ICE kicks in and my MPG nose dives.

    Congrats on the new twins!

Wife who has a commute about 1/5 of mine is nowhere near needing gas
