I haven't even noticed gas prices. Filling up is such a rare occurrence, I could care less. Until the price goes up 5x it is too low.

I care about gas prices. When I stop at the gas station to fill up the tank for my lawnmower, it sets me back quite a bit.

Wow ! I always heard that Europe gas is just expensive compared to the USA. Why is that? Is is taxes or something else?

Well we have fuel tax that currently runs at 60% and then we pay 20% Value added tax as well so on the whole most of what we pay goes to the tax man, so I guess of the $8.20, approx $5.40 is tax

Geez, unbelievable. The gov is worst than the Mob, they just never relent.

The Beatles back in the day, George Harrison was so upset about paying taxes when he started earning big money he wrote the Song "The Taxman".

I'm cynical and fortunate enough to have low gasoline bills. I actually prefer higher gas prices. Higher prices equal less SUVs and less cars in general on the road equals shorter commute times for me. I drive a lot so I value my time on the road more than a couple $ more per gallon.

One can take varying views on tax but I take the line that essentially a country is like a company, to work it needs
revenue and in the case of a country that means tax. I'd rather pay highish taxes than be in the situation that we see
countries like Greece at the moment

I'm perhaps one of the few people who prefer to keep my money than pay higher taxes. It think gov is bloated and inefficient. I would like to keep entitlements in place and improve services , nothing worse than pulling the rug out from under the old and poor. Can it be accomplished? Not sure.

Greece problem is they borrowed a ton of money for the Olympics and bonded the people to death. There version of social security starts paying at 52 years old. The tax base cannot support it. The Greeks don't pay taxes. They cheat whenever they can and it is culturally accepted. Not seen as cheating but normal. Many suburban middle class have swimming pools but bribe tax inspector to not pay property taxes. If government operated better they would not have trouble. Gov is corrupt raising-taxes won't help them. Spain as 25% unemployment because the gov taxes so much it drives business out of business.

Things are best when gas prices are lower and stabilized. When gas prices start to rise, and continue to creep up, people panic. Related and unrelated items also rise. It creates uncertainty. I have a fiends who states he doesn't care, he can afford it. Many can, most can't. We lose control, because we have no control over gas prices. It puts a unfair burden on those that can least afford it and it wrecks economies.

Now that I have a Prius and I'm barely stopping for gas anymore I won't be feel like cutting back until about 7.00/gallon I guess? With my last car It would have to say prices would have to be 4.50/gallon before I would start cutting back. So I think I have a ways to go here. So, the answer is No.
