What should I expect gas milage wise?

On a side note, my battery light has been on for 6 months so I've been driving with one eye on the road and the other on the battery gauge. Driving before was so fun. I can't wait to have the Prius back.

Also, I'm buying it from a local place that offers a 36k, 3 year wty. I'll be writing a review soon for SoCal Prius owners.

Fuel economy? Depends on how fast you drive. If you can manage to keep it < 65 mph on the freeway - 50 mpg easy. Around town, even better depending on regen and average speed. I can achieve 60 mpg sometimes with my Gen II on side roads.

Ten years down and ten more to go until your third traction battery. How much will this one set you back - battery and installation, BTW?
I've been hoping replacement traction battery cost would decrease as the technology matured and more hybrids were sold but it just didn't happen. I'll have a tough choice to make when my 05 traction battery dies. By then, I should have nearly 250K miles so it might not be worth it.

Even a plain 12V starter battery in a non-hybrid is expensive now - go figure. Used to be able to pick one of those up fairly recently for about $35, now it's > $70.

Maybe your Prius will last as long as the early 90s Camrys I still see on the road EVERYWHERE I roam.

I owned a 92 Camry for a brief time (at least a couple of years I think) until it was sandwiched between two vehicles at a stop light when my wife was driving it - not her fault, this time. It was a nice car.

Best of luck with your re(new)ed Prius.

Are you sure? I bought my 2001 used in 2008 and started occasionally looking up Toyota's price on the traction battery just in case, and it seems to me the last price I saw over at toyotapartspeople was down by something like a grand from what I was seeing around the time I first had the car.

    Jadziasman,

The place that is installing has 2 options. I assume it's the same battery but with a diff warranty. One is 18 mos, 18k miles for $1599. The other is 36k/36 months for $1799. These are sale price down about 2k.

As for my mileage, before the battery issues I was a hypermiler for sure but still only getting 42. Driving with the battery issues I have tried not to stress the battery so my mileage went as low as 37 on some tanks.

Fantastic! As a going away present, my battering is failing on the way to work. Engine winds up and car slows down, E-Brake light comes on. I restart the car and I get another 15 min.. My fault though, I let this go on far too long. Battery should be in stock tomorrow. Now I just have to get home at the end of the day.
