I have DESIGNED many different center caps for Gen II and Gen III 15 inch wheels, which can be ordered from a company called Shapeways.

They are made with a 3D printer, from "Laser-Sintered Nylon", and should be painted the color of your choice for protection. They have a velvety texture, like spun sugar, that will take paint well. The faceted appearance of the rendered images is an artifact of the modeling software; the curves appear very smooth. The Gen III cap is depicted above, I should receive the Gen II prototypes in the next week or so. I have every expectation that these will fit the wheels exactly as expected (the measurements and printing process are very precise), but I cannot say that for certain until I test the fit myself.

Gen III 15 inch wheel center caps (equivalent to Part Number 42603-52110):

Gen II 15 inch wheel center caps (equivalent to Part Number 42603-52030):
    Power Symbol

All styles and designs available HERE

NOTE: I cannot warrant fit, suitability, durability, or finish. All designs subject to change without notice. The price from Shapeways is directly related to volume of material in each object. I am not involved in production, manufacture, distribution, nor sales of these 3D printed parts nor of the original Toyota parts.

I have more designs that will be uploaded soon. If you think you have a good idea for a Prius center cap, contact me. If I can, I will endeavor to make it available.

Interesting. I like the concept. I'm not big on the current designs available. I'll keep checking to see what designs become available.

I think they look pretty cool. Is that Tamiya paint? I like the way they can be customized to whatever color we want but I suppose you'd need a really good, durable clear coat.

    Interesting.

I wouldn't want these, but here's some idea's based on what I've seen people do:
How about just a plain (slightly rounded like the power symbol, minus the symbol)? (Actually I might go for a plain)
Logo's (I'm grouping all of these since they most likely have copyright issues:
    Bat symbol
    Superman
    Autobot
    Decepticon

As for what I would like, maybe something like the attached

M King -Can you give me a side view of how the elements relate to each other in the Z axis?

    EASY

EASIER! Actually, Exactly what you describe is where I started with all this. It never occurred to me to simplify the design. My natural inclination is to ornament. I will try to upload this today.

The Tamiya paint is really a pleasure to work with (kinda smells like ripe apples). It can be hard to find, but it sticks like Sh!t on a blanket. I will be top-coating everything with a polyeurethane varnish. This is how murals and other outdoor art installations are weather proofed.

Thanks for the thoughts and feedback. I will endeavor to bring your ideas to life.

    New design!
These are definitely going on the wheels of my Prius.

I found a high quality Acrylic artist's spray paint (Montana) that I will be using to prime these, but these are noticeably smoother than a design with compound curves. I also used a script for the spheres that make the nucleus and electrons, which has vastly more polygons, and less faceting.

As always, your suggestions tendered; all designs available through Shapeways.

I need to pull a center cap off my PiPA and measure to see if it's the same diameter as the standard alloy center cap. If so, I will definitely be getting a set of these!

If you have the 15" alloys, the hole should be 2" across. The standard plastic cap (part no 42603-52110) is 52.45mm diam below the cap, and the wider portion that detents into the recessed ring inside the hub measures about 55.65mm by my reckoning. If your caps differ from this let me know. Or- better yet- get me the part number that fits and I will buy one to measure. It is fairly easy to change the dimensions and generate a new version.

I like the idea but will be waiting until I see one I love to pull the trigger. Nothing is really standing out to me.
