Good inverter pump replaced with bad = red triangle of death.....

    Had my prius in for the last two weeks for:

    1) Flooor matt recall.
    2) Steering shaft recall.
    3) Inverter pump recall.
    4) Odometer enhanced warranty.

    I've never had a car in for so many recalls and broken stuff. It's amazing I never got to use my extended warranty.

    Tonight, red triangle of death. Pulled out OBDII bluetooth scanner and pulled code from my Galaxy S3:

    P0A93 - Inverter "A" Cooling System Performance

    I'm guessing either:

    1) New pump is bad.
    2) They didn't install connector correctly.
    3) Or left air in the system.

    Any guess? Anyone want to start a pool or add a new choice?

    Mine in for the exact recalls took the dealer 3 hours and I had my car back. Why was your car in so long? How long after you got if back did you see this problem?

    You'll need a Bluetooth OBDII connector which you plug into the OBDII port on your car. Then use the torque app for android.

    The Bluetooth OBDII adaptors can be found on eBay for not too much money :)

    There are dozens of brands available on Amazon. Many of them between $15 and $20 that get good reviews. I spent $30 a few years ago on Amazon for a XiTech which has worked flawlessly on dozens of cars.

    The reason it was in for so long is the instrument cluster was back ordered.

    The dealer called this morning about an hour after they opened. Turned out the inverter pump connector had come loose which really means the tech didn't plug it in all the way.

    So the question now is is my inverter at risk of pre-mature failure because it was driven a mile or so with the pump disconnected? Is it going to fail in 50K miles because of this whereas it wouldn't have had they not screwed up?

    Should I ask Toyota to extended the warranty on the inverter due to the dealers screw-up? Is it worth it to try?

    No worries if you only drove a mile. If the inverter is going to fail because of overheating, it would have already failed.

    Yeah the Prius is the most recalled car we've ever owned with the most serious recalls (generally the others haven't been things that will kill you).

    Your experience sounds like the same general Toyota service sloppiness that's been the norm for as long as I've owned my car. We have had this similar experience across dealerships and geography.

    Wouldn't hurt to try asking for a warranty extension, but in all likelihood (based on my personal experiences), you're not going to get any kind of concession from them even if they completely screw up.

    I have to bring my car in for the recalls too - my mother called our local dealership and said that she was told that they are just going to check the car as they don't have the time to actually do the repair if something's wrong. Yet again I will find myself praying that they don't completely screw up my car due to their general incompetence (I suppose all the Chicagoland dealerships have 1-2 star Google reviews for a reason).

    Which is why its imperative after you pick up your car from the dealer after having work performed you drive it around the corner, get out and take a few moments and look under the hood and check how much stuff they messed up.

    My pump was replaced under recall last week also. I drove around the corner and took the cap off the I reservoir and saw very good agitation. I also noticed they overfilled the I reservoir right to the brim. Fixed that with a turkey baster when i got home. I looked at the pump itself with a flashlight for any leaks or anything wonky. That looked ok.
    They did my steering bolt too. I looked at the steering wheel alignment (what other car manu's call "Clearview") and that tracked ok.

    I checked the backseat to make sure they didn't take a dump in it and went on my merry way.

    Don't forget to carefully inspect the exterior and interior before and after. I always take a walk around hidef 1080p video before I drop a car off to *any* one where it's going to be out of my possession. This has already saved by but twice.

    That's a good idea. I have a Hero 2....should have used it.
