    Hey Folks,

First off, thanks for all the information I've already gleaned from this forum. It really helped dispel some of my biases and preconceptions about hybrids.

I do a lot of commuting between Vero and Pompano and rack up at least 500 miles a week. I have(had) an Xterra Offroad manual that was a lot of fun but even driving like a granny I wasn't getting 20mpg on the interstate.

Not too long ago I had my first behind the wheel experience in a prius and I was begrudgingly impressed. When I decided I wanted to high mpg commuter it was between a prius and tdi. To be honest I really tried to talk myself into the tdi but the more I read up on it, as fun as it my be, the potential reliability issues were too daunting.

So, as of today I picked up a '10 IV with a sunroof package and navigation in the maroon/beige color combo. I'm digging it.

It's a certified vehicle and the dealer was trying to push all kinds of warranty. I half expected them to offer coverage for an assisted living facility. The only thing that would have interested me would have been an extension of the factory warranty but he was pushing mpp??? He didn't seem to be able to provide factory warranty so I declined all the various coverages much to his dismay. One of the selling points to me is the fact that it is a Toyota so I'm not that worried but I am curious if more factory warranty is available. The car has 30k miles and I plan to put another 100k on it.

Again thanks for all the information so far. Any tips on things I should check out initially are greatly appreciated.

I can say that going from a Xterra to a Prius and driving 24,000 miles a year you will save a boat load of money on gas.

I'm not familiar with the extended warranties. If you do the scheduled maintenance you should be fine with just the manufacturer warranty.

I'm looking forward to it, especially if it goes nuts again. I'm not going to sweat the extended warranty; I'm surprised how robust these cars are after combing through these forums.
