The dealer has had my car for 8 days now. Wonder how long this fix is going to take?

The dealer has had my car since January 7th. No news yet. The new combination meter has still not arrived...Today was day 24 for me.

Today was day 25 for us, and it was a very good day.

The combination meter arrived, they installed it, and we got our Prius back!

I guess I'll just be patient; It's only been two weeks. I just don't like the 31 MPG that the 2013 Corolla is getting.

The dealer has now stopped giving me estimates for how long this will take. Toyota is so backed up that they have stopped guessing when the repair part will be available. Looks like I am going to get to put a thousand miles on the loaner Corolla. Less wear and tear on my Prius.

Thank you for the link. I have spoken with two dealerships' service managers and they know nothing about this issue. When I read the letter to one manager he wanted to know the mileage limit, there is none and he had a hard time wrapping his mind around that. I have been getting the runaround on this and it's been occurring now for 2.5 years. Finally with this letter I am starting to make headway. I will contact the corporate office in Torrance, CA this week.

    Again, thanks for the link.

I've already put over 2,300 miles on the loaner car. It has been over a month and I've stopped asking. When the dealership wants their car back, they will call. It's their loss since I usually drive in excess of 30,000 miles a year...

My Toyota dealer got the part today. I will get to pick up my Prius on Monday. 26 days after dropping off for a three day repair. At least it was free!

After 7 weeks (day 49), my Prius will be ready for pickup on Monday, Feb 18th. Looking forward to getting my car back and saving money now that gas is over $4.00/gal. again. What did I gain from the experience? The knowledge that I would never buy a Corolla. Would have loved to drive a newer Prius or Prius v for the 7 weeks!

I'm in that same camp - The Corolla was OK, but not nearly the pleasant experience that my Prius is. Looking forward to driving my good old Prius home from the dealer today.

My 2004 is of course covered by the Comb. Meter Warranty Extension. The OD in a 2004 is also known to stop at 299,999 miles (fixed in 2006 and later Prii AFAIK). Does anyone know if the replacement Comb. Meter would prevent the ODO 300k limit problem? My 2004 is at 237k miles so G-D willing it will last past 300K

Three weeks to the day for me, took them 2 weeks to get the part and scheduled it for the fix. Also took care of the water pump and steering extension recalls while we were there. They made it a pretty smooth operation. :D

New Combination meters correct the problem of mileage stopping at 299,999. One important item to note: When the repair is done, the actual mileage from the defective CM is transferred to the new one. This equates an error in mileage if the CM has consistently failed over time. For instance, my actual mileage is a few thousand OVER what is recorded on the CM. Has anyone heard how this will be handled when the title is transferred to a new owner? Should ALL '04 - '09 Prii be suspect to inaccurate mileage? I was considering the purchase of another gen II but am wary of anything on a dealer lot...

I would SUSPECT any of them just based on my experience but didn't think to ask the folks at Toyota if it would be reported to DMV. I've seen a few advertised with "inaccurate odometer". I just bought a second Prius, 102K stated and no record of the combo meter being replaced but...who knows? I asked about it but it may have been replaced through another shop or privately. I know my first one has a few extra K's on it too but I'll be keeping them till they won't go anymore. Best mailcar I ever had!

Hey Arty - didn't know that you were also a rural carrier! I was the first one in the area of extreme Northern NY State to use one to deliver the mail. The car performs flawlessly delivering mail in the Adirondacks during the worst days of winter! I know that many Prii were sold after customers realized that this car is very durable and can handle extreme weather conditions! I am considering buying another gen II and last Monday I went to look at the used inventory when I went to pick up my Prius after the CM replacement. I did find a 2008 with 49000 miles but became very suspicious when the dealer indicated that the CM was replaced before being offered for sale. Since my car was at the dealership since January 7th and was not ready until February 18, there is no way that this car could have had the work done if it was only traded in at the dealer on January 30. Not to mention, the car's mats and cargo liner were missing and the carfax report indicated 2 accidents (no structural damage). Dealer price? No lower than 14.695 for a pkg #2. I hear that the 2014 models will offer plug in as a standard feature. I hope that the engineers rethink the bulky console and place the shifter on the dash for those of us who have to drive from the passenger side. I was considering the v wagon but have heard that the console can not be removed due to the eco shift power buttons being mounted there. Any thoughts? Should I wait until the new models are released or should I opt for another gen II? It seems that the prices are high right now...

I didn't read every post here but noticed you have a 2009 and had it replaced. Did you have an issue or Toyota replaces it no matter what?

I had an issue...started probably a year ago, maybe a little longer and got to where I saw the speedometer like once a month. They say it's higher mileage cars, mine started around 80K ish. The fact I run mail in it and have some dirt road miles that tend to turn into washboards may have accelerated it for me, I do not know.

I just bought a second Gen 2 last week. I went with the '09 in 2010, was going to buy a new one but like you said...console! Tried the Prius V at the dealership but my leg wouldn't creak that much...lol. The '05 I bought last week was $9200 after tax, tags and title, 102k on the odometer, whatever might really be on the car. A week later I'm getting the 50 mpg and drives nice, seems competent though I haven't taken it on the route yet. Personally, I went with the spare Gen 2, not confident they'll get the console out of the way anytime soon. :(
