I recently posted that I was purchasing a low mileage 2007 Gen2 and had been told it was a base model. Actually the seller was clueless about the options and had only had it for 3 years. Didn't know what a "Package/Type" was.
Before I got out of the driveway I discovered it did have the backup camera. However, as I began reading through the owners manual (my first operational Gen2, with a manual) and programing the radio and a few other features, I discovered that this was a Type 1 with backup camera. But soon discovered from the display and steering wheel that it lacked the Blue Tooth and Hands Free ability. Something I have been wanting. I could live without the Nav System since I have a good system on my tablet that I take with me from vehicle to vehicle. Not sure how good the Gen2 Nav System is but have used it on my sons 2010 Gen3. Seemed ok but I'm hearing that you have to subscribe to the Nav software or is that just for updates?? Or is it just a couple CDs that I need to find??

Now that I have learned a little more about these systems, I looked at the two other Project Gen2s that I have and discover that a 2007 tired old (300k+ miles) Yellow Cab has both Nav and Bluetooth.

So, the obvious question is, are these Gen2s all prewired for the Nav System and Blue Tooth and aside from the the transfer of the Nav ECU from one vehicle to the other.

    Educate me please??

I'm not near my car to check, but look under the driver's seat for a harness, that's where the nav goes.
I would guess they were not wired for all options though, just for the particular package build.

I have been looking at these Nav/Blue Tooth items on ebay and CL and most sellers are Clueless as to what is a complete Nav system, not to mention the Blue Tooth. From what I gather so far, there is the MFD (which it seems is unique to the Nav system). the DVD reader deck (which may carry some other Nav sys components), the steering wheel (for the controls of both the Nav sys and Blue Tooth) and let's not forget the GPS antenna puck (I'm not sure yet where that is located). And, I almost forgot, the mic for the headsfree that is located in the overhead console (i think).

If these cars aren't prewired for this package, then this would complicate things like the steering collum and the antenna.

I could go dig around in my donor car and see if I can find out what these harness look like and then snoop around in the Tansplant Candidate and see if the same connectors are there.

Thanks for the interest in my question.

Nah! Just checked the donor. The donor has the Nav control unit under the passenger seat and wiring goes under the carpet. Looked in the base model Type 1 options and there are cut-outs in the carpet for the mounting and cables but probed around as far as I could and didn't find any harness under the carpet. Also I put power to the systems and pushed Nav button on the donor car steering wheel and to a msg that the system wasn't connected. Might be that the GPS antenna is in the tail gate and that has been remove because of damage. (better check that before I scrap it!)

While I was at it I fired up the Blue Tooth, registered my cell phone and made a call. That system works great, and really that is what I want in the other car. Not sure if it is part of the Nav system or a totally different system?? That one I feel would be worth doing. Like I said in the OP, I am happy with the GPS nav system I have on my Android tablet.
