Dealer changeable settings? (reverse beeping etc.)

I purchased my Prius about a month ago and absolutely love the car. My one legitimate complaint thus far, however, is the reverse beep. After speaking with my dealership, they agreed to make the change from a perpetual beeping to a single beep for $50. I haven't agreed to this yet as I don't believe I should have to pay for this modification to be made, but every time I back this car out of my garage the $50 sounds more and more justifiable.

A dealer quoted me a similar price. I took it back to the dealer from which we purchased the car and they did it for free without hesitation.

My business partner and I picked up our new 2013 Persona Series cars at the same time. I mentioned the reverse beep to my salesperson during the nav tutorial and she led us both over to the service dept and both cars were undone in about 10 minutes (no charge).

Buy a bluetooth OBDII ($20) connector and then get Torque ($5) for you android phone. You can do it yourself.

    This is what I did.

The tech stream is required to have all doors unlock with one key fob press.

I have an AutoEnginuity ODBII scanner. Haven't tried it yet but when I read the repair manual page it sounded like it was a special menu. It's just generic ODBII? Car goes in Monday to get the stain stuff put on the upholstery so I plan to hand them the service manual pages to get the reverse beep and passenger seat belt beep disabled. I don't think I'll be successful in getting my husky to wear his seat belt. :D

Don't do it! Like others have clearly mentioned they should do it for free (mine did at the 5k service with no argument or hesitation). I stood next to and watched the service guy and the procedure took maybe 3 minutes of his actual time connecting, loading the software, etc.

Would you mind explaining how you did this? I have the bluetooth OBD2 dongle and Torque Pro but I can not figure out how to change these settings??

Edit - Got it figured out. Much nicer with just one beep for reverse!

My local Toyota dealership did it for free and I didn't even buy the car from them, or have I had it serviced there before.

That's crazy. It took me 10 minutes to program my Scangauge and all is silent now.
If you were in the Chicago area, I could help you out with that.

I wanted this setting set to off prior to buying the car and they forgot.. finally brought it back to do that and it's great! Default setting to on is idiotic.. annoy/distract the driver with a beep while backing up.. makes NO sense.. silence.. or one beep.. what a relief!

I now have a bluetooth ODB2 and the android app but can't figure out how to change reversing sound to just one beep. Could you give me some details because the noise is driving me crazy since I have front and rear parking sensor as well. Thanks

Can you share the info with me. I have the BT ODB2 and the Torque app but can't work out how to get the reverse beep to just one beep - and it's driving me crazy! Any help gratefully received. Thanks

I'm going to get a dongle as I have a spare android phone. Can anyone tell me in advance what must be done with the torque app to change default settings on the Prius. TIA.

i took this paper to the doc and they agreed on making the changes. quick question, this list does not include the navigation -grey-out' bypass. can they disable that as well if i tell them? this is the option where the navigation buttons do not turn grey once i start driving enabling me to input directions while the car is in motion. thanks!

No, that can't be changed by the dealer. It's a Toyota legal department mandate.
