02 zero point calibration for rack

    I've seen a few posts regarding this topic, tiptoeing around the manual procedure without the use of the thht.
    The use of a paper clip on a few pins have been mentioned, but no full procedure to follow. Could someone direct me to a link with the full breakdown? Or post the procedure?
    It would be greatly appreciated.
    I'm not scared to try it. :)


    Btw: Chaps idea behind the led in the display is genius. I think I will use this instead of throwing an led on the ECU

    Glad you like the display LED idea! It seemed a lot more convenient to me than messing around behind the glove box any time I want to see codes.

    The steering ECU init and zero procedures using the TS and TC pins are in volume 1 of the service manual in the EMPS (electric motor power steering) section. An on-line link is techinfo.toyota.com.

    It appears to be my last resort for the info.
    So if I subscribe for the access-would the standard access get me the info? Or would I have to get the professional?

    It's all right in the service manual volume 1, so the standard access should be fine. I think a lot of us also don't mind retyping something short out of the manual once in a while if it helps somebody, it's just that my manuals are usually nowhere nearby (I went for the paper versions) when I'm checking PriusChat. Plus the various pin-jumper ECU dances have never been anything I was eager to try to retype, because they're pretty detailed sequences of steps with timing diagrams, etc., and if I goofed or left anything out somebody could be frustrated trying to get it to work. Best to leave out the middleman for that kind of thing.

    I don't think you'll regret getting your own access to the manuals - there's a real wealth of information there that will easily pay for itself if you're not selling the car next week. Also part of what's always made PriusChat fun is the number of people participating who kind of have that base of knowledge in common. It means the conversations can start and move on from there.

    Well, I purchased the standard subscription for a 2 day access and the information was right where you said it would be. :) Thanks again Chap for talkin me into this.

    I'm squeezing my $15 worth by downloading all I can into a service manual file on my laptop. Almost done, but very tedious. Takin me a few hours thus far.

    Fiqured it would be worth it since I do all my maint. on both of my Gen 1s.

    As for my newly installed (used $75) rack and pinion, it works flawlessly and is at the shop for alignment. I'll perform the zero point cal after that.
