You give your reasons, they give theirs. You argue against the individual points the other makes. You might persuade each other.

    You then agree to disagree.

If he is contributing money to make the purchase, I would welcome his opinion and comments. And he does not care if the vehicle was built in Canada or Mexico as long as the name on it says: Ford, Chevy, etc......?

Better a foreign made car than the foreign oil needed by a less efficient car.

My 1997 F150 with 275,000 on the clock need a tranny rebuild for $1200 at 212,000 miles, only wear items otherwise, good and bad in all

Sounds like it's a Diesel. Expensive to own ,expensive to drive and expensive to repair.

China does not have to steal. Walmart does the dirty work for them.

Hey I think you should blow his mind.

Tell your parents you bringing home a date for dinner and you want to show off your new car.

Pull up in a Prius with a new Asian Girl Friend.

    He should get the message.

I'm sure he wished he was as lucky as you.

Anyone who's done 40 years with any Company, let alone Ford, has earned tolerance and respect. I would venture to say detroit11 and his Step "Dad" will be just fine, even if he does get poked for buying a Prius.

Yep. This was the point I was alluding to when I asked where the people who work at Ford/GM shop.

My Dad, now 77, put in 35 years at Chrysler (Warren Truck Plant).

About 10 years ago, I panicked because I bought a GM. At the time I was 22 and still living at home. Pulled in the driveway, he came out and I was waiting for him to start yelling. He wasnt googley eyed over my new GMC Envoy but he was happy that I was happy. He really liked the way it rode and the idea that I bought a GM instead of a Chrysler was never discussed.

Last year, I bought my Prius. My Dad drove me to pick up the car (LOL) without even knowing what he was driving me to. He had never seen a Prius before that he had remembered. When he saw it, the first thing he said was "This thing really gets 50mpg?? I need one of these!". After chuckling a little and sharing that moment with your Pops, you know that "WHEW! Hes not mad afterall" with a following ((HUGE sigh of relief)), I told him that going from a 3/4 ton Dodge Ram with a Hemi to a Prius would be a mind blowing experience for him at 77 and I didnt recommend it...lol. I asked him if he was mad that I bought a foreign car and he replied "Im happy that you are trying to save money any way you can!". What a Dad!

Either way, in my case I thought my Dad who had 35 years in at Chrysler and was heavily involved with the UAW (he still goes to all the meetings!) would be pissed about my Toyota purchase. It couldnt be more opposite. He comes to visit me at work 2-3x a week, I work in an office. He always asks about my gas mileage, and Ill give him little tidbits here and there (ex. the prius will likely not need brakes until 150,000 miles, the prius has no traditional starter motor, etc). He loves it!

Here is the final answer. I don't bother waste my time to argue with them, I just buy more foreign cars let the action speaks for what you believe.

Wait till he learns about the mileage, and the graphics on the eyebrow instrument dash, always a crowd pleaser.

Tell them most domestic cars are made in Canada/Mexico and a good portion of imports are made in the USA.
