I seem to recall somewhere in the manual that there is a way to deactivate the beeping when you put the car in gear? I'm not interested in debating the wisdom of this decision, my justification for it would be because I like to read during my lunch breaks at work, and at least until its warmer than 60*, reading at lunch involves driving my car about 1000 feet to a more secluded part of my work campus. Sitting in my car in front of the office seemed decidedly weird, and I have no interest in sitting inside at my desk and reading so this is my solution. But, I dont want to have to put my seatbelt on for this 5 mpg 1000 ft drive on totally empty semi-paved roads.

As for the rest of the time, I would much rather the beeping sound be reserved for when I put the car in gear with the parking break still engaged as I am far more worried about that having negative consequences to my brand new car than the unlikely event of me forgetting to put my seatbelt on.

So, is the seatbelt thing something the dealer has to do or is there some button combination I can use?

On most cars that I have seen, there is a connector under the front seat to disable the sensor. Not sure about the C, but my wifes 2008 Mazda 6, my old 2001 Saturn SC2, my cousins 2002 F150 and a co-workers 2008 Nissan Altima all had them and just a quick unplug fixed the problem.

Just get a seat belt extender off of eBay, it'll fool it into thinking a belt is buckled

afaik.. the only method is using Toyota Techstream.

so unless you have access to that software with the OBDII hardware connection.. you're going to have to have the dealer do it.

i know that there are people out there that have the equipment.. but those things cost a bit.. and as much as i would personally love to have it... it's just too expensive.

lucky for me.. i had friends that worked at the dealership.. so i borrowed their techstream laptop for a few minutes.. got in.. and changed whatever i wanted on my car. :D

That would be nice! Unfortunately, "friends" is the last term I would use to describe my relationship with my dealership and most of the terms I would use would not be appropriate for this mostly family-friendly forum. I suppose I will wait until my 5000 mile checkup and see if the dealer on the otherside of town can do this for me.
