Ok, I have a 2010 Prius with JBL , non nav. I dont really think it sounds very good. Bearable but not great. I would like to be able to use my iphone for music. I dont really care about streaming but I do know there is an option to stream it for about $150. I would like to keep steering controls and bluetooth calls. I started poking around for Ipod control and quickly was lead to look at a head unit swap, then speakers etc. I cant really tell if this is over kill or will be a big sound upgrade. I dont really care about volume but would like a nice sound. Pandora controls and Iphone control would be nice as well.

Here is what has been suggested so far :
    kenwood dpx500bt

    Factory integration adapter:

PAC Toyota Factory Integration Adapter Install a new receiver while retaining your JBL amplifier in select 2003-up Toyota and Lexus vehicles (Model TATO) at Crutchfield.com

Infinity reference speakers front and rear doors

    Infinity Reference X REF-6502ix 6-3/4" 2-way car speakers — also fit 6-1/2" openings at Crutchfield.com

Curious about this as it seems there are two speakers in the doors now (component ?) and this would
take it to one not sure if the smaller existing speakers would be used or not

    Steering wheel contrl adapater

Axxess ASWC Steering wheel control interface — connects your car's steering wheel audio controls to an aftermarket stereo at Crutchfield.com

Ordnance powered sub woofer b8pt( of course once you start you have to add a little bass I guess)

    Sound Ordnance™ B-8PT 120-watt compact powered subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

    Powered sub wiring kit

EFX 10-gauge Amplifier Wiring Kit Power and signal connections for your new amp at Crutchfield.com

I assume this would have to go through the fire wall. I think everything else would be plug and play basically.

So thoughts ? what am I missing? Is there something else? better ? Should I get an amp for the whole system or run as it sits .
I would prob have to the sub installed while I did everything else. ( fingers crossed).

I was thinking about this setup:

    Pioneer AV-X5500BH
    Pioneer CD-IV202AV VGA Interface Cable
    Apple Lightning to VGA Adapter
    SiriusXM Universal SXV-200 Tuner
    PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Interface
    PAC TATO Toyota JBL Interface

Not clear about whether or not the Toyota European dash replacement kit will fit the above radio and whether or not extra side trim pieces from some other kit (Scosche or Metra) would be needed.

The above setup would give full iPhone 5 functionality plus HD Radio and Sirius XM and, of course, Bluetooth streaming audio.
