    Drat,

Well, My Silver '06 package #4 was supposed to be at the dealer the second week in January. It's now almost February and the dealer has no idea when it's going to show up. As he put it, it could be anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, Toyota's not telling him squat. I'm now wavering as to whether or not the Prius is the right route for me at this time. As I've stated in a few other posts, I decided to drive my '96 Escort into the back of a rather large SUV a couple months ago. At the moment, I'm just borrowing a friends car, and I don't see this as a very tenable situation. What happens if I'm in an accident, the car gets stolen, someone breaks in and steals something? Who's liable, which issurance is used? Friendships are ruined over much less. The car isn't in very good shape as well, so who the heck knows how much longer it's going to last. Point is, I need a vehicle sooner then later.

Anyway, if this Prius doesn't show up by the end of February, I'll probably ditch it, and buy something like a 2003 Matrix/Vibe: Good utility, top notch MPG, good reliability. I really think the next generation hybrids coming out with Lithium Ion batteries and more real world experience behind the engineering process will be much better then the current generation anyway. I personally love the idea of a diesel hybrid. Anyone see the Ford Reflex? SWEET!

I guess I'm just venting a bit, I'm quite frustrated at this point. I put in an order for this car on December 9th, so I'm either first or second in the dealerships queue. I wouldn't mind so much if the dealership said the car was delayed and gave me an ETA, but not knowing anything about where this car is or when it will show does not sit well with me.

On the last point, every so often someone that works at Toyota is on this board. If someone can confirm the rumor that Toyota has stopped producing Prius' to build the HyCamry, that may help my decision making process along.

    Peace,
    Cosmo

If you still really want a Prius why don't you do what others on this forum have done and start calling other dealers to see if any are in stock and not presold?

That is exactly what I did. I got tired of waiting and being told that it is almost here so I started calling other dealers, including across the state (I live in the Seattle area). I found mine (Silver 06 with Package 8) within a week in Portland, only a 2.5 hour drive. It was in freight so all I had to do was wait another week. I've had it for a week now. BTW, I only paid MSRP. When I went to go get my deposits at the 2 dealers where I was on the waiting list they said, "oh, you must have paid a lot of money for that?". I said no, msrp just like i would have paid with you.

Already started that process. No luck so far. At least not with the option package I'm looking for, and that is not negotiable to me. I'll consider a couple different colors, but I'll only accept a package #4.

toyota's not telling the dealer anything? what a case of scapegoating.

they didn't "order" your car. they took your "order" and put it into the list. they get allocations from the regional distributor and don't know what's on the truck until it's on its way.

if you're more flexible on color you may find something sooner. also check to see if #4s are even being sold in your area: go to toyota's prius page and click build and price. there you should be able to see if you've ordered something that's not distributed in your area.

    good luck :)

Yes, the Northeast seems to get more of the lower pkg's. My dealer was able to tell what was on the ship before it got into Port. That's how he traded with another dealer to get the color I wanted. They trade car's while their on the shipped that way that get shipped on the truck directly to the dealer that wants the correct car. Bascially they just trade paperwork.

Ditto on calling other dealers. Another helpful tool is toyota.com. I found that website quite helpful at locating some Prius in my area.

But as far as getting a Matrix.... Ummm how about a '06 Civic Hybrid instead?

I got my Prius by accident. We stopped into the dealership to see how long the waiting list was. They had 2 #6s on the lot. One was the beige looking color, and the one I got was the Silver Pine Mica, which I love. When I was back in for the protection package, they had a blue Prius available, but I didn't check the package.

You might want to consider being more flexable with the package. I was going to demand NAV, but once I looked closely at the price difference, I realized I could get a really nice GPS for a whole lot less.

No can do. As a single guy with a house, I need a vehicle with a bit more utility then the HCH. Not only is their no hatch like the Prius, but the rear seats don't fold down at all. I do a fair amount of work on my house and landscaping as well, and the HCH just will not cut it.

Thanks to everyone who has given me advice. I need to check up and see what package #3 has, that may be good enough. As for Maryland where I live, they only have package #2,6,8 and maybe 9, not sure on that one. Package #2 doesn't have VSC or the air bags, and package #6 has too much stuff and increases the cost of the car to a point beyond what I'm willing to pay. I've called around to a couple other dealerships in the southeast region, and so far no luck. What is a shame is that the current dealership in NC that I'm dealing with was willing to go $300 below MSRP, almost unheard of, and I'd definitely loose that if I found a vehicle at another dealer.

Whatever, it's just a damned car!

    Peace,
    Cosmo

If you want a package #4 check the NJ dealers. I believe that region was supposed to receive pkg #4.
