Do you really need to use Phil to perform the repair?

Didn't you receive the warranty extension letter mentioned at Combination Meter Warranty Enhancement | PriusChat I finally did.

Thank you cwerdna. I contacted Toyota's Customer Experience Center and they put me in touch with the Corporate Office. They said that my Vin falls within the range for the recall so I would not need a letter from them. They gave me a case number and told me to bypass my service rep (who wants to charge me $600) and go directly to the service manager. They can then check my case number and see that I am approved for the repair. Will let you know what happens.

Update: My dealership has me scheduled for next Thursday and it is 100% under warranty. Thank you so very much!

Our mechanic just sent out a board from Brockton, Ma to you yesterday - hope all's good - rather have it done the right way than the Toyota way.

Personally, I'd rather have it replaced for free (w/a supposedly updated part) w/no labor charges or no DIY labor under Combination Meter Warranty Enhancement | PriusChat than to pay to have it fixed. That's just me.... Once that warranty extension ends, if it fails again, then send it to pEEf.

I just got the steering recall notice and it makes me worried because everytime I bring that car over to them they seem to fix one thing and then 12 other things go wrong...plus all the blank stares and trying to homeschool the techs is just too frustrating. We'll see though...if Peef gets the board running good then maybe I'll schedule with them for the steering replacement.

Do warranty-extensions like this extend to a second owner or only the first?

We recently acquired a 2006 Prius and the radio audio is not working (all display features, channel search, bal. & fade, appear to work) but no sound.

The non-Toyota repair shop said something about the codes indicating a switching problem where the system is not releasing resources to the radio for sound. It was unclear. They said the module may need to be replaced.

Someone else suggested it could merely be the Molex plugs behind the radio may be loose or have light corrosion - but I do not have dis-assembly instructions for the radio area of the dash.

    WDYT?

The warranty extension applies to the current owner, it doesn't matter whether you are the first or the tenth.

However I doubt that a failed combination meter is causing your radio audio not to work.

You can find repair manual and wiring diagrams at techinfo.toyota.com which is a subscription website.

I have the same problem. In fact, I have tried to contact PeEf about this on this forum as well as his email.. but he hasn't responded yet.

Dashboard lights first wen out.. No speedometer, no fuel mileage nothing..
    Consumption doesn't display.

Today Dashboard lights came back on but consumption meter still doesn't display.
Car runs fine, Shuts off quickly.

I wonder if Peef is still providing these services.

Thanks for getting back to me Phil.
I called Toyota in Sunnyvale and scheduled a appt with them.
They told me that they will charge upfront labor fee to figure out what the problem is ($180)
however if the problem is combination meter then they'll refund me that money.
They also told me that it'll take them 3 days to fix the issue and there won't be any loaner car.
    I scheduled appt for tomorrow.

From the document Toyota provided (linked above):

    Ask for a loaner!

I've had several Combination Meters repaired by pEEf and those boards have not refailed several hundred thousand kilometers later in taxi use.

My advice: Take Toyota up on their free repair.

Sure hope pEEf is around, sure he is. Just bought a 2005 Prius cheap at auction because the CM display was out. Found this thread and, 3 hours later had installed the CM from my 2004 Prius (totalled recently at 245k mi) and it worked like a charm. About 700 miles later the CM gave began to show the same signs. After reading all the posts, I remember about the Cruise control waited something like 50 miles before working. I have relied on the OBDii speed and mpg readings, as well as a GPS for speed whenever the display is bad. Today I pulled the card off the CM, and am contacting Phil soon.
    Cheers, Mike

I'm wondering why you would pay to have the combination meter repaired when it is covered by Toyota under an extended warranty.
