They're trying to sell stamps for the Post Office.

Call me a geek but I trust the cold hard logic of an infallible machine than the overworked underpaid government worker. Even if I made a mistake, it can only be found if a human spot reviews my return. This is unlikely based on Turbo Tax's convenient audit flag scale putting me in the green.

It's going to be interesting when we finally can get this all sorted out: why some of us (like me) get the $2500 credit without question, and others are having it denied.

My guess is that there are still some people claiming credit for regular Prius. IRS employees were told to deny these credits. Many IRS employees are unaware of PIP credit.

I'm certainly not defending the specific IRS behavior at issue in this thread, but this kind of knee-jerk anti-governmentism gets old real fast. Solyndra? It would take days to list all of the poor investment choices engaged in by the glorious US "private sector"...and that was BEFORE those financial geniuses came up with CDOs and the rest to trash our entire economy (and then of course need "the government" to bail them out of their own greed and incompetence). And the Post Office was doing just fine before Congress burdened it to prefund retiree benefits for 75 years into the future over the next 10 years--a requirement seen in no other private or public enterprise. I see just as many examples of "incompetence" and "inefficiency" in private business than in my local, state and federal government. But those examples don't fit the ever-popular stereotype of the "incompetent government" so they are viewed as isolated and unconnected, rather than as proof of a pattern of "private sector incompetence." I'd love to see any kind of credible study demonstrating that per capita inefficiency, incompetence, etc. is any greater in government than in the private sector.

Incompetence, greed, fraud, etc. are HUMAN qualities, ones found in equal measure inside and outside "the government."

PS It's also a little ironic to see such anti-governmentism in a thread complaining about why people aren't getting their GOVERNMENT incentives... ;)

My credit just got rejected as well.
I filed with Turbotax, had the return ready for weeks but TT would not allow me to file due to the IRS delay with the electric car form. Finally on March 9, it allowed me to file and I got my State refund in just a few days. I kept waiting for the Fed refund, but then I remembered that the IRS said they would only accept it at the end of March.
Did Turbotax jump the gun too early and file my return with the wrong form maybe?

This whole credit process is so wrong. First of all you have to buy a car and hope to get the $2,500 back, but throughout the year the tax code can be changed on you (after the fact of course), then you have to wait 12 months to claim your money back, and finally they can reject your request and the burden is on you to prove you actually deserve the money.

It should have been a discount when the car was bought and not linked with income tax at all.

I filed early when e file wouldn't go through for only the $2500 credit. So my state got e filed and deposited right away. I mailed in the federal, and although it took about a month to get approved it was in fact approved and my refund, including the $2500 for the PiP, was deposited. I think this boils down to either people there not properly informed on this credit or people who are mad we are entitled to this money and figure screw it, they'll get their money eventually but let them work for it since all i have to do is make this one little mistake which won't get me in trouble one lick.

Solyndra's main problem was cheap panels from China & silicon prices plummeting. They had a fine product, but couldn't compete with the super cheap panels coming out of China.

I still believe their product was going to have pricing problems even without Chinese competition.

The Exact same thing happened to me. Just found out with the "where is my refund tool". I used turbotax and filed electronically and all of the forms appears to be complete and correct based on earlier posts on this thread.

Solyndra was a good gamble by US government. $365M vs. $622M for ONE F22 Raptor which, like Solynadra, has no advantage vs. much cheaper overseas competitors.

Report: F-22 Raptor Loses $79 Billion Advantage in Dogfights

Solyndra much better national security investment than half of an F22. Solyndra offered real solution to No. 1 threat to US national security, US oil use wars, terrorism, economic and environmental costs oil use creates. F22 offered no increase in US national security.

Had US government protected US solar industry from overseas competition, as China does with its strategic industry which includes solar industry, Solyndra would be working today and helping US grow economically while increasing US national security.

Same people who fought against Solyndra, fought for F22 also fought against the tax credit for hybrids and EV's. Go figure.

Update: Got the letter from IRS.
IRS staff said" To be qualified for $2500 plug-in electronic car credit, your car must be in the service between 2/17/2009 and 1/1, 2012. "

It seems that idiot IRS staff confused on something.....
