Thank you señior. Good new is that 'she-who-must-be-obeyed' has given the nod for the go-ahead that week end ... and once she gives me my allowance, I can register.

It's no problem. I just wanted to mess with you. Imagine if it was a Tesla meet... How could they charge all of their cars at once?

What would it cost to rent a generator? Someone could tow a generator trailer into the park and many could plug into it.

    That's an interesting thought.
Now, a lot of smaller generators don't play well with EV/PHEVs, I can't charge my Tesla off of my 6800W generator at home. But I would think that if you rented one of those 12-14kW diesel industrial type gennies that it would be pretty good and you could even do some level II charging from that for those who might need it.

Here's a place to request a bid. Generator Rentals

2A regular generator has a mechanical sine wave but a higher quality generator / inverter will produce the necessary pure 60 hertz sine wave to work well with a portable EVSE . Our 30amp 240 volt Honda 6500 works just fine, for example - however you may still have to spoof your portable evse into believing that the generator/ inverter is grounded ( a couple resistors appropriately placed will do the trick) - even though generators are usually not grounded .... and that's a whole different topic. Yea - generators don't typically produce the necessary grounding that your portable EVSC demands.
That said - some folks have provided massive gensets for charging at different events - even Chademo. BTW, 120V generator charging is exceptionally inefficient. Our Honda 6500 at 200 pounds is about as light as a 240 volt generator gets. Just a few things to keep in mind.
if you check out the plug share website you'll find there are several 240 volt charge stations nearby that may be the better way to go. It just looks wrong to have a generator belching fumes, just to make electricity. That's the very reason I converted our Honda 6500 to run on natural gas and propane as well as gasoline.

    Yea, good point there...
Ok, maybe a giant solar array and wind turbine rental?

If they were ever to throw an event in Conyers, Georgia we could use the Olympic Centennial Horse Park where they hold other events. Since they do a lot of festivals and fairs there they have lots of electricity, with plenty of outlets.

There are places in California that rent solar arrays for on-site power generation. But they generally are not big enough to charge up a bunch of EVs.

Yes - just like the rental array when we were up at Eric Loyd Wright's mountain top place in Malibu 3 years ago, for the reveal (and the beginning of the now famous "Prius Family:

Man, that was some GOOD eats. LOVED those grilled hatch chilis. Hmmm - i can't seem to find my pic's of the solar that they rented right now ... dang. But yes ... you'd need about 6x or 7x as much as they had there - in order to charge cars - .
    .
    EDIT:
    Yay !! I found my rented/Malibu solar pics from 2010 . . . . . .

I believe they told me they rented a 2.4kw system. good memories

Why is the solar generator in the shade while the people are in the sun?

Those were the very end of the day - long shadows that you see there. There was maybe only 45 minutes of daylight left. Which reminds me Pat - you should have seen that BEAUTIFUL sunset that evening from way up there ... over 1,000 above the Pacific:

So Cal's government/economy may suck right now, but it's still a beautiful place to be, driving around in your Prius.

    East or west?
    Maybe I'll beat you!

Better to take the ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland.....that way you can avoid France.....

You sound a little like JC.....no offense...

British cars (are there still real British cars??) are so great because you can change the engine in a couple of hours.....I'd rather have a car that doesn't need engine swapping!

My first car was a Triumph.....not a good choice if it's your only car and you need it to be reliable.

I'm sorry....we were just checking who has to drive to the meeting.
It turns out we are practically neighbors, living only ~2 mi apart from each other.....
I think it is the easiest if R-P picks me up and we drive to Hook of Holland and take the ferry to Harwich and pick up Lutchenko....
Depends on where Lutchenko lives in the UK.
If Lutchenko lives more north, then it might be easier for me to take the Maassluis-Rozenburg ferry to pick up R-P and take the Rotterdam-Hull ferry to Lutchenko.

What to do......give me some wisdom.

Sorry, gang, we won't be attending this year.

I'm in my last term of university, as is Javajunki, and we are working at getting our house ready to sell. I cannot possibly scrape up the $$$ for flights and hotel... and driving is out of the question this time, as I do not have the time available for that road trip.

You KNOW I love you all - after we win the Lotto, we'll invite you all on a cruise. (y)

This is a great idea. I understand it's the first year and time for this gathering. Also understandably, probably the vast majority of Prius owners live in California. Maybe if this gathering becomes annual you would consider hosting it in a more central location. Chicago comes to mind. Many conventions happen here because it's easy to get to (via many forms of transportation). Good luck, and again, this is a great idea!

Ryan, historically the East Coast guys had Green Drive Expo and other large events. The Detroit event (Prius Connection Detroit) where many of us first got to know each other was also very far from the West Coast. So it sort of makes sense to have a large event here. The fact that California sells so many Prii doesn't hurt (best selling car for 2012). :)

I'm sure Danny will adapt event locations as needed as he learns more from the Cali event.

    Our first get together. :)

Sounds like a wonderful event. If I lived 4 hours away (by prius) i would attend. Unfortunately I have already scheduled vacation for 1st half of year prior to notice of this event.

Best wishes on a successful event!
