I put this post deep in a News thread on Diesels, and then thought it might get more answers and more fun answers on its own in Fred's House of Pancakes.
I have this idea that there ought to be more folks who have both hybrids and diesels than you would think from the reputation of hybrid and diesel owners as mutual haters, which you will find both on Priuschat and on similar Diesel fansites.

    Question:
Are there any families on PriusChat other than my wife and me who have BOTH
    a Prius (or other hybrid)
    AND
    a Diesel?
(In our case, a 2010 Prius II and a 2012 Audi A-3 TDI).

Not sure if this is the kind of diesel you meant, but yes, we have a Prius and a diesel Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Two different vehicles for two different purposes, but love 'em both!

Yep, that's one of the many things I mean. I'm figuring that many of the folks who have both have them for different purposes.

Brief overlap when I had my 2001 Golf TDI with 540k miles and going strong, no oil consumption!
Once I found out how simple the Prius transaxle is I wanted one.
My Prius is a high-tech space ship compared to the Golf !!
Sold the TDI to an ex-sister-in-law. And before the Golf, I sold my '99.5 Jetta TDI to #1 daughter.
Now there are 5 VW TDI's in the extended family. Guess who has the VagCom and gets to work on all of them?

I hear ya! Pruis is a DD, F250 is a hauling and towing work horse - the best of both worlds.

Looks like this thread is winding down. A much higher percentage of pickups--especially F-250s than I would have guessed--and fewer cars. Given what's been sold in the US over the past several years, I'm not surprised that the cars on the list are TDIs (Volkswagen Group's diesel trademark).

:)I've had three VW diesels, 1980 Rabbit Diesel, sold in 1985. 1999 VW NewBeetle TDI, sold in 2006 when we purchased a new 2006 NewBeetle TDI which we still have. I've had my 2012 Prius Plug In for three months. With five total vehicle for two people, we're looking to sell the 2006 NewBettle TDI. With the continued high cost of diesel fuel and just OK fuel mileage, I've lost my love for diesels.

They were available in Canada, and NAFTA made it easier to import used ones. Assuming metro-mike didn't live there once.

I first had interest in the Smart Car years ago before they were available to the US. There was a company out of Long Beach if I remember right that would take them from Canada, perform the "safety" mods and sell as previously owned. But I thought Diesel was not allowed. Interesting.
