    Hello,

I bought 2006 Prius. Dealer charge $5000 above MSRP (so they called Market adjustment price). Any suggestion will appreciate to lower my damage.

    Thanks

I think the rules vary from state to state... It would help if you posted where you are from but yeah you got scammed... you should consider BBB as well as sending a public letter to them as well as Toyota so other people don't get scammed as well.

I think in CA that there is no 30 day return policy but I don't know about other states (inclduing MA that I now live in).

I hope you can still enjoy your car! It's a great ride!

Caveat emptor. Unfortunately in most (maybe all) states once you sign the papers and drive it off the lot it's yours no matter how bad you got taken. I guess the bright side is you now have a very good car, just go to a different dealer to have it serviced. Keep in mind the Prius usually sells for MSRP and you paid 5000 to much; a lot of cars routinely sell for 5000 under MSRP and a lot of people pay MSRP for them through ignorance. It's a lesson learned, don't do it again.

You could post the name of the dealer here and on other sites as a warning to others, also as previously suggested give the local BBB a call and file a complaint.

BTW Sam welcome to Priuschat, stick around there are a lot of people here who know lots of things about your new Prius. What color and what option package did you get?

Thanks guy's for all the reply. I sure like this piruschat.comm. I see reply's so quickly.

I am going to meet see The fleet Manager (Toyota Of Lewisville) as per my request to go over on price. He didn't mentioned though that they will cut the price and i don't expect it either. Nothing to hurt to give a try. I wonder laywer will help is this case? just curious

My 2006 priuse is exactly the other user "galaxee" who reply in this post. Black with Package #2.

If I where you I would tell them that you feel ripped off and that you will never do business with them again if they don't correct their mistake. I would also go so far as to tell them that I would comunicate my displeasure to everyone and anyone I can get to hear me. Then I would mention that I'm a poster on Priuschat.com and greenhybrid.com and explain that many potential owners do research on the web before buying a car.

Hopefully they will give you a break but I would still never set my foot in their dealership or service center after this affair (unless they prove the have fired the salesperson).

In CA, one of the standard forms they stick in front of you to sign is a "waiver" of the 3-day cooling off (i.e. return) period. Thus, you "voluntarily" agree to NO return period at all. Standard practice.

The thirty day return policy is Saturn's thing. I haven't heard of it anywhere else.

A new car? Return? I don't think so. The moment you drive it off the lot it is not a new car anymore. Now it is used and has depreciated by perhaps thousands (well, maybe not a Prius!).

I have a friend in the used car business. He once told me ALL his cars he sells always come with a 30/30 warranty; 30 feet or 30 seconds, whichever comes first!

How was he ripped off? If you paid less than MSRP are you going to give the dealer more money if he asks for it? I'm sorry but the time to decide if the price is too high is before you write the check not after.

Instead of threatening him with posting his name a better approach might be is to be nice and see if the dealer would throw in an extended warranty and/or prepaid service for free. He's got a lot of leeway there to deal. I don't think he will give back any cash though. Good luck.

BTW Did you trade a car in on the Prius? He might have paid you more on the trade-in and that is part of that $5000. over MSRP.

I agree. He probably have no legal ground to complain. What he can say is that I think your business practice suck and I think your potential customers would be interesting to know about it. I for one would appreciate to know which dealers in my area charges 5000 over MSRP and which doesn't. Guess which one I would go to when I need a new car?

Sure, a dealer has every right to rip off his customers. Customers aslo have the right to talk about it. I think the short term maximizing of profits will hurt a dealer that does this. To be clear, I have no idea if these acqusations are true or not, I would need to see a lot more evidence before jumping to a conclusion one way or the other.

willing buyer, willing seller. I would look for a flaw in some of the paperwork as a way out. Otherwise you are screwed. :(

    Hello,
I do appreciate your advise. I met the manager, he is throwing leather and low jack. They priced $5000 over (so called market adjustment), so if i take out leather and lowjack than i paid $3000 over. Feeling better now. thanks Guy's (I'm lucky to expore priuschat site, you all great) --- Sam

I'm glad they throw in a few extras. I still dont' appreciate how they have decided to run their business and would not deal with the again.

I'm sure you will enjoy the car! I actually think I will pick-up my car today! And yeah, this site is a very valuble resource. There are many people with an almost scary knowledge of prius technology.

What color and trim did you get?

    You're very lucky.
The dealer didn't owe you anything.
Even so, at $2k over MSRP, I think you should not consider doing any further business with them (apart from your prepaid oil changes).
