happy owner of a 2013 Prius two, just gettings used to all the neat features as i am coming from a 04 Nissan Maxima which is still my baby. lol.

anyway, i am currently debating if i should get the Toyota Care Extended Warranty(Platinum).

any recommendations or advise as to if i should get the warranty or not. I commute 50miles M-F + some weekends to work.

thanks everyone and happy to join the community. :)

    cheers.

welcome! i wouldn't bother with the warranty, but if you decide to go for it, shop around! it's a competitive market and there are threads here with good advice and contacts. all the best!

Welcome to the Family also! As a car salesman, I am suggested to push these warrenties. But feel that they are only a security blanket that is normally not worthwhile. Only extras that I feel are worthwhile are the 3m plastic film bra, and xzilon that protects the looks and value of the vehicle (as long as the price they selling it for is not super pricy). These products also makes it super easy to clean.

Welcome to the community. I will be your number 4. Absolutely no to extended warranty. You were/are still driving your Maxima with no warranty. Expectations are that repairs on the old car will be higher than the new car otherwise you wouldn't have purchased a new car. It only makes sense to purchase extended warranty on the Maxima instead of the Prius. And that is precisely why they only offer extended warranties on new cars. That's where they make money on people who value peace of mind.

The whole "Extended Warranty" debate can become heated.

I personally have never bought an extended warranty. My logic, is that with a vehicle with a good reputation for build quality and reliability ( The Prius fits this definition ) "if" I have any major fluke like defect it will manifest within the first 3 years and be covered. If I don't have a major defect or problem? Then just good aggressive regular maintenance, and dealing with any problems as they arise will probably be the best course of action. In other words, I feel like if I can get a reliable 1st 3 years, I'm probably going to have a reliable 6,7,8 or more years.

So basically, no, I personally wouldn't recommend an extended warranty.

But I have simultaneously argued that an extended warranty in many cases really isn't about car maintenance or even value or cost. For many people it becomes purchased peace of mind. So despite my recommendation I also say, if you know exactly what you are purchasing, what is covered and not covered, and you want it? Go ahead. I personally wouldn't do it, I think you are probably better off just putting the money aside that you would of spent on an extended warranty in a personal "car repair" fund. But only the individual can really answer how much they may or may not value an extended warranty.
