we all bought Prius to save planet... (well saving wallet)

for those who owned Prius for many years, does it get old to paying attention to your daily MPG?

2005 for 7 years and one year with plug-in has not gotten old yet. Love trying to get good mileage! :)

I bought mine so I dont have to worry about getting good mileage. Do I look? Yes. Do I pay attention? No.

Not in the first four years, it hasn't. If you count earlier fuel savers, not in the first forty years it hasn't.

It was fun for a while, but to much work and distraction. Still get 50 mpg driving normal, 47 when I'm late.

After 3 weeks, the novelty of the fuel mileage challenge wore off. I used to have the 1 minute consumption up on the display all of the time, but now I just keep the HSI display up and look at the MPG when I turn off the car.

Honestly, I get nearly as good, if not as good, of fuel mileage driving normally as I did trying to hypermile. The Trip B, never reset from when I got the car, reads a pretty steady 51.7 MPG. My driving is about 70% highway.

:)I've had my Prius Plug In for three months. My goal is as much EV mode as possible. I've enjoyed trying to maximize my mileage. Although I'm not consumed trying to squeeze every mile I can, I feel I'm driving my Prius the way I should. Otherwise, I'd be driving a gas guzzler, exceeding the speed limit, with not a care in world other than myself.

I don't try to hypermile every chance I get, but I have developed a certain driving style that compliments the Prius' hybrid system that is now natural to me, even when I drive non-hybrid vehicles. After 1.5 years of ownership, do I still pay attention to real time mpg while driving? Not really. But it is slightly alarming when I see that I get below 50mpg avg after any given commute.

I get 45mpg +/- and that's all the information that I need, i.e., that the Prius gets about twice the mileage of my other car.

No, never. I get a kick seeing high 50mpg tanks every now and then. When you fill up with 8.9 gallons and then make over 500 miles before the next one, one can't help but to laugh a little. Felt great 4 years ago, and still does today.

That, and sometimes going 8 weeks without a fill-up (even when the car is getting mid-40 mpg's), also does the same thing for me. Doesn't get old.

...according to the people who frequent a Prius-owners website...
We might not be average Prius owners.

I think the good habits we develop by trying to get good mileage become ingrained after a while. I don't try to squeeze every last mpg out of my Prius but I do find myself automatically doing things that contribute to good mileage, even when I drive non-hybrid vehicles.

Only on my 4th tank of gas.. but getting cut off isn't so fun.. might be ready to hyper speed soon.. hopefully I can atleast finish this tank off. My mpg on this tank is best so far.. 48.5(computer).
