I'm really going to miss you guys, now that I've joined "the dark side" (Tesla Motors Club forum), we just talk about boring stuff like how to trade TSLA for maximum profit, and stuff like that. I'll try and visit once in a while to call BISCO (or other technically challenged members) "Luddites" :) - don't mean to offend anyone.

Btw, I have another fully built & assembled/working 30A OpenEVSE if anyone is interested in a 240V EVSE. Just ask BISCO, I built one he uses :). It's not much use with the Tesla Model S, it can use up to a 75A OpenEVSE (which is what I built for it), and it comes with a 40A capable EVSE anyway.

So if no cell phone how would you call Toyota? Here in sunny Southern California, there are no pay phones any more. If you did not have a cell phone and were on the freeway, you might get run over....or shot depending on the area.. grin..

if there was a spare, the cargo would not be 21.6cu ft which is a huge plus for many. the fusion energi has only 8 cu ft and doesn't even have a spare!

You guys are too accomodating, purchasing spares, building shelves. Toyota should unleash some engineers on the problem. I'm sure something could happen, at the least there could be some sort of underslung spare, like a truck or SUV has.

. Totally agree. I think sometimes these companies don't have any common sense.

there's no room for it anywhere, but they could offer it as a reasonably priced option and maybe a special back deck with a sunken circular surface and hard cover shelf. but this goes back to toyota's ideas of storage, only slightly better than mercedes.

Well now I have a need for a spare tire. Low tire pressure warning on the dashboard today. GASP. What does that mean!? Check manual.. low tire pressure. Check tires. Back right has a screw in between the treads. Oh great!

Search PC to see if the air compressor works without gook. Nope.. okay had to go to auto supply store to buy a compressor that will refill my tire in the morning so I can get it repaired and not fill it with all the goop -- which will most likely ruin the tire and force me to purchase a new one. DUMB idea Toyota.

:)We're all creatures of habit. Many manufacturers are getting away from any type of spare. Most of us had this type of discussion when the "donut" spares were introduced. Anyone with a updated thin laptop missed their DVD-RW drive lately? We'll adjust. I purchased a spare for my PIP, but don't carry it daily. Being an optimist, the lack of a spare was never a major concern. Improvised, adapted, overcame.

You don't miss a DVD drive because there is a direct replacement that does everything it used to as far as removable storage. In fact, a USB drive does it better.

On the other hand, a can of fix a flat does not solve your problem when your sidewall blows out in the middle of nowhere.

Now you are right, you probably don't need it everyday, but on a trip of any extended distance I'd want one.

But what happens if on the same trip a second sidewall blows out?
Tires have become more reliable and roads, in general as well.
The last time I needed a spare was 25 years ago.

I do agree about the extended trip though. When I next take a cross country trip I plan to buy an extra tire and stow it for the trip. But I don't expect every car owner to put up with the cost of lugging around a spare they will likely never use.

...be careful with the EPA Cargo space specs...on the PiP that must include seat down or something. The Gen2 was 14-ft3 and I think Gen3 adds another 1-ft3. I use Toyota Canada site to get comparative Cargo space reported the old way we are used to.

Did they change this or did the carsalesman bs me? He said it had special tires that were more sturdy and tougher than in the regular prius that you don't have to worry about flats, or if you had a flat, you'd have 30 miles before it becomes an issue.

Was this the advance model only?
