Few years ago, I was inspired when I saw a Prius cruising down the parking lot with no engine noise. Then I traded in my Land Rover for a Prius gen III, but my first Prius is defected since I was only getting 30 to 35 mpg at the most. After a year of trouble shooting, frustration, disappointment, I traded in for a Porsche Cayenne.

Then, the PIP came out last year, I was like wow, how cool it would be to drive with electric. With no regret, I got the PIP base and enjoying every day with the MPG and Electric Mode.

Recently, I test drove the Tesla Model S, wow wow wow, 100% electric, it got Porsche performance, not to mention the 17” LCD screen.

I have been seriously considering selling my PIP, so I am wondering if I am the only one here been craving for a Tesla Model S.

You are not the only one craving a Tesla. You are one of the few who can afford one. I wouldn't be driving a PiP if I were in your shoes. Judging by your car history, you've gotten a new car every year for the past 3 years. Sounds like you're due for another one. And when the Tesla Model X SUV comes out in 2014, you can upgrade to that.

Well, I purchased one--still deciding whether to sell the 2001 or 2004 Prius. What I determined was that if I keep it for a reasonable length of time, I'll be out of pocket about the same amount as if I had purchased a Camry, and only slightly more than a Prius.

I see a trend here. Shouldn't you be looking at another suv? :D

:) The Telsa is a super nice car, even better that it's 100% electric and long range. In reality, I could swing it, but it's more car than I need at this point in my life. Plus, I tend to be conservative when I spend money. I might want the best, but I can live with less. That's why I drive a Prius Plug In, currently at 70% EV mode. It fun experiencing driving all electric, even if it's short range, on a budget.

To explain my car history, my wife got a Pilot, so we don’t need another SUV for the family. As I mentioned the MPG I was getting from my first Prius, I was so pissed at the car I traded in for a Porsche Cayenne. Well, shortly after I got a new job which requires a lot of diving and my gas bill was over $400/mo with the Cayenne. Since my company reimburses gas, I got the PIP almost for free and it has been great.

As for the Tesla, I still need to pull together my financial resources in order to effort one. Let’s not mention the price tag for now. Since we are PIP owners, I cannot emphasize how cool it is driving the PIP when it is fully charged but after 13 miles we are back to a regular Prius.

For the Tesla, 100% electric and the sensation from the acceleration you can’t find from a combustion engine. I just hope this technology would be more common sooner so we have more affordable choices, although we have the Nissan Leaf, Honda fit EV, but they seem like a toy compared to a Tesla. Isn’t the Tesla just like the first Apple iphone when it first came out few years ago?

I feel the same way, but can't get the Tesla off my head after my test drive.

You are not alone, many recommend people not test drive as they will then find a way to own one;-)
The Tesla I am really looking forward to, as far as a general impact on the light vehicle market, is their third gen sedan, due out around 2017/2018.

Just make sure it is what you really want and statisfies all your needs.

Otherwise, you'll be jumping back to Prius shortly. :D

Exactly! We get the joy of driving the Greatest Car in the World, and after 13 miles, we are down to Second Greatest Car in the World.

    Unless you drive a Tesla.

Did you get the 60kwh or 85kwh? How do you like it? Any range issue? Do you have to fight for a public charger?

I have a PiPa and a Rav 4 EV. Now that RavEv is fun as hell to drive. Oh and its 1/3 the price of the Tesla at $31k (after rebates)

I am going through the same phase now (but the cheap version). I want a Nissan LEAF badly (with the RAV4 EV being my 'dream car'), the top-of-the-line LEAF is cheaper than the Prius Plug-in Base (lease wise), but I'm guessing I'm stuck with the Prius unless I find someone to take over the lease. Nothing wrong with the Prius Plug-in, I just want all electric now, no more ICE for me, don't need the range, as I still have my V6 RAV4 as backup.

Jealous as hell of you RAV4EV/Tesla guys!
