I got a Chevy Cruise Eco ad. Don't think the very vague MPG claim will hold up. What was the battery KW contribution? Boosted battery? Wider SoC range for shorter life? Emissions? Still it was nice looking.

You won't get better fuel economy. It just never pans out despite claims from supercharger/turbocharger companies. I highly doubt the drivetrain could handle an extra 166hp on a regular basis. I have been through more than enough supercharger and turbocharger systems to know what I'm talking about. Or you can ask Ford..... Hahaha

It's a pipe dream and a lot of us don't want any part of it.

Why do I want 300+ HP? I am not stupid enough to be fooled into thinking I need that much power. The Prius with its meager HP can accelerate onto the highway and keep up with traffic. 300HP is completely wasted in any commute. If you believe you need that much HP to be happy, you are just stupid.

Lately I've been monitoring ICE rpm with our NHW11 when starting from stop lights with multiple lanes of traffic, mostly two sometimes three. What I've found is a modest 2,400 rpm puts me right in the middle of the pack and this is not a whole lot of power . . . and very efficient.

Yes, sometimes I'll punch it if three lanes turn into two and I don't want to have to merge into dense traffic. But I've never felt any problem passing on two-lane roads by doing it right:
    • time acceleration behind the leading vehicle so on-coming traffic passes first
    • pull into passing lane and continue acceleration until just passing the vehicle
    • pull back into the lane and back-off power to resume cruise speed at the posted limit
The only reason for passing is the lead vehicle is significantly under the posted speed limit. It happens, often with 'handicap' license, trailer, or elderly driver.

There are times I drive like an idiot and keep up with "the pack" at triple digit speeds and the Prius does fine. 300HP is useless.

Worse yet, when you try to use all the extra proposed power, your fuel economy tanks. That is why the EcoBoost, and other small engine turbo ideas, simply do not produce big FE numbers. Anytime you stomp the go pedal your fuel mapping goes from fuel efficient mode to fuel dump mode.

Yep, $60,000 is about right. 2 extra mpg on a 5-mile loop for a total of 44mpg? Sure!

Engines with forced induction have more power for a smaller displacement, but are not known for fuel efficiency.

sorry guys, fox marketing cars are... marketing... one off cars not really tested at all.

so forget about those claims and enjoy them for what they are... one-off concepts.

CRs driving style punishes fuel dump modes rather significantly. They nearly floor it quite a bit and so their numbers always punish a turbo. Doesn't make them right. Haven't you seen their Prius mileage - so hard to get that kind of mileage in the city on a Prius.

So yes - CRs numbers are good for comparing how cars behave when you "drive it like you stole it". Their highway numbers are better though.

So complicated. Put an electric drivetrain in there and enjoy the effortless power and smooth driving experience (and double the fuel efficiency):)

The Prius' Atkinson cycle ICE has this long power lag/delay. Would increasing the HP Atkinson cycle engine make it all that much faster? I would think a wider and stronger electric motor performance would be more helpful in speeding up the Prius but would not this require a more powerful HV battery (or Ultracapacitor add-ons) with higher peak current performance?

Toyota is looking at adding hybrid tech to its sports car the Scion FR-S. For right now I think the Honda CR-Z is the only hybrid sports car out... but they are still rarity in my area.

I would believe the HP & MPG increase only if they added an Aquatune Water Injection system ...

Ouch, I just noticed the 20" wheels. That alone will kill mpg. lol

Yes, but the 9.5" 10.5" width coupled with the high performance tires should also give a net gain in MPG...

I can't believe you are questioning this rocket scientist. His 5 mile loop should give you total proof that he's legit. Of course if he puts another 200 miles on it, that should unequivocally prove his claim.

I've wondered if it's the wheel size or the gearing of he synergistic system that has been designed for 15" wheels?

Looking at extremes.... What if the wheels were 3 inch wheels, that would be totally crappy gas mileage with "lots" of torque below 10 mph.

Or let's be a little more reasonable... What about 10 inch wheels?

    It can't be wheel weight?
I can throw another 2 adults in the back and not notice a mpg difference?

Tire diameter generally stays the same when you upsize so it's not gearing. It's a combination of extra weight (larger tires are A LOT heavier) and tire design. 18"+ tires are not LRR. Even 17" tires are not very efficient yet.
