I think your setup needs more wind tunnel testing.

    And the pics

Yes - the JPL lab was closed. But this just in: I gave up finding a signal in the dash, and ran from the reverse light.

I did not suspend my Prius from the roof for this one...

All please note - the image is on a dark background (so more easy to see) - when it is light (garage backing=white), it is difficult (but still shows) to see.

The image is accurate enough - it goes to .4M, then says STOP. At .5M, I get 22 inches. Not perfect but nice to watch you are getting closer. Also, this is clearly un scientific - just a quick test - but it seems to work well...

This is the first time I've gotten my rear cam to work, and while it does work, I was definitely hoping for a better resolution on a 800x480 display... That said, it works. It's close but not as good as our GX cam - even with better specs. Of course - the cam did cost $20 - and may of may not be as good as it states at night...

I noticed the entire exposed part of your sensor is silver. Did you paint the whole thing or did you mask off the metal sensor and only paint the plastic?

It came as silver - and matched perfectly. That said, they claim to many colors - I am SURE I was lucky - though silver is easy.

There are MANY specialty shops that sell spray paint (matched/mixed to the std silver - they custom mix each can) It can be done easily - but that's another story (I have a patch on my bumper that needs fixing via this custom spray paint)..

    TTFN....

I finally had the execuse to get back to this project. I bought an audio-alert only backup sensor package versus one with video. I could've cobbled together from various threads the information to overlay a differnt package's video over the Toyota OEM NAV system, but didn't want that much trouble. But there are now sensor packages on ebay where the control box in the back is wireless with respect to the display unit in the front. This makes it easy to handle the back-end install separately (i.e. different weekends) from the dash-install. I also followed your advice and bought a nylon-pry tool set on eBay.

The most useful tool was a small one to help pull the center pin on the plugs. With the plugs and screws removed, since the bumper cover essentially rotates bottom-to-top (counter-clockwise), the other attachments at the sides just popped off, no prying required. It also makes sense to remove the underside corner wheel well trim pieces first since they hold-down the center trim piece. The corner pieces are also where those extra clips were you mentioned. And a final note was that the right corner trim piece used a plastic nut that initially left me puzzled.

I also used your prior advice and used a heat-gun to pop out the deformaties in the bumper cover. That worked very well.

But the most useful discovery I made in the process was, after already taking the time to measure a bunch of times the locations for the sensors per my packages' instructions, that my inside bumper cover was already embossed with four circled-X's marking the locations of the Toyota sensors. Their measured locations matched the TPA manual linked-to above. And not only did I find that their locations were within the placement tolerances of my packages' sensors, but they made sense in that their locations avoided the actual bumper and styrofoam cover. So I abandoned my measured locations and went with Toyota's. Knowing not to fret over the vertical and horizontal measurements and leveling would've saved me at least a half hour.

In the TPA manual, on Page. 20, Fig. 25, there's a connector which is labeled L6. It looks like the Z cable effects an in-line splice to power the Toyota unit, i.e. L6 & Z9 are the same connector with whatever is the Reverse signal siphoned off. Does anyone have access to a pin-out of L6?

I'll post again when I find the reverse-tail-light wire and get the thing wired up.
