    Yes it is....You can connect your USB data stick through a regular cord that has the right fit...I'll let you know when I will go over with mine.

    My latest research:

    1. The device built-in is a CD drive NOT a DVD drive;
    2. After selecting option Map update the message on the display says "Please connect a device" - which obviously means, that the service has got some external drive (HDD or so which fits the socket) with licenced updates. Otherwise the message would be something like "Please insert the Update Disc";
    Will see in couple of days - my service station visit is scheduled soon - very soon :)
    Good night - dobranoc.

    I think it's doable. All we need is a laptop. I'll update soon as I have my (Ebay ordered) DVD maps...See attached

    Dvd arrived...It has the map serial number on it. I've tried going through Toyota's site in order to have a certificate and everything looked ok. (I didn't finish the procedure in order to have the right equipment ready, otherwise it could have locked me out...). I've got the (regular) firewire cable needed for communication between laptop and Prius....and tomorrow I am going to purchase a USB stick with a capacity larger than 6,7Gb (Map's data)...I'll let you know in a couple of days...

    Ok...I bought the Europe East E16...(If you need it I can send it to you...In any case I am planning to resell it...)
    So let me tell you what I concluded: that the first and only prerequisite one needs is RTFM...
    Well in the manual is clearly written that in order to update your system with a web licence you need the map ID ON YOUR SYSTEM...
    That is you need:
    1.the new map serial # (written on DVD)
    2. the existing map version (displayed in the screen of our system)
    3. the map ID (which can be or cannot be displayed in the screen....) and
    4. the web license key that you CANNOT obtain without the map version and map ID.....
    So it seems that there are two different options in navigation HDD units...The first displays the map version and the gracenote version and the other displays the map version AND the map ID... In order for one to bypass the dealer you need to have the map version....
    So evethough I have all the necessary equipment ready (lost money....)I'll have to go to the dealer...The hard part was to find a USB-to-firewire 4pin cable....I had to go through Ebay...But all the rest are easy...Sorry to bring you bad news. I'll let you know when I follow the process with the dealer...Greg

    Hi. I had my unit upgraded this morning...It took them an hour... They wouldn't let me attend the procedure following "Toyota's rules"...The final cost was 210 Euros and the good thing is that -besides the map upgrade- I found that through the settings I had the option to manually enhance the microphone reception level (0-4), an option that was not available to my previous system...I don't know if would do it for 400 Euros, but to be honest, despite comments all over claiming "useless Prius navigation system", in my case the navi is superb!!! I used to use igo8 and Primo in my previous car, but I am completely happy with the Prius navi...BTW the map version installed is the E17 now...Take care
