I'm replacing a compact pickup with a Prius because after getting our house the way we want it we just don't need the truck and I haven't used the 4x4 in over a year. It's still a good vehicle but does have 173,000 miles on it.

Also, I probably would not trade in or replace a newer vehicle for a hybrid based on mileage alone. It seems to me I'd just take a bath on both of them. The time to buy a hybrid is really when you would be replacing your other vehicle at or near the end of it's lifecycle anyway.

This seems to make the most sense to me as I benefit not only from much incrreased mileage but considerably newer technologies.

When my wife's car is due for replacement we are looking at an Escape Hybrid. Depending, of course, on how they turn out.

I keep reading about people trying to get extra gas in at each fill-up or coasting to increase milage or very concerned over the enviroment or anti-SUV, but I bought my Prius simply because I liked the car.

I agree with mdacmeis :iagree . The comparison may be with a totally different car. I currently own a Grand Caravan. With kids growing up it's been a super kid hauler and overall I've been very satisfied with it. With 170,000 miles under its belt it's time to think about another vehicle. Another Caravan would cost me $35K easily. The Prius, while smaller, is actually big enough with its hatckback and folding rear seats. And I get great gas mileage, much less pollution, and equivalent (at least) comfort to a Caravan. Doesn't look expensive to me! I think I'm making out like a bandit. Long live Prius! :D
