Is anyone else planning to keep their Prius much longer than usual?

    I will keep mine till I die. Then it will go to one lucky heir. So will my 71 vw bus which has 92k on it now. Some vehicles are worth keeping. But a long range ev prius could be a temptation!

    Had a base Geo Metro for 13 yrs., 290k miles. Ran great, no oil consumption, no maintenance issues but getting rusty below the doors. I was ready for the first car to beat its 58 MPG hiwy rating, the 71 MPG hiwy Honda Insight.
    Two seaters are not that good as your only car.

    I'll give up my Prius "when they pry it from my cold dead fingers", ( Heston quote ).

    RAV4 EV! :) Hopefully Toyota can apply what it has learned with it (and compare using Tesla's powertrain vs. their own that they used in the 1G RAV4 eV) and sell an EV across the nation (rather than a "compliance car" if that's what the RAV4 EV really is).

    Not bad. Buy that for $5935 (maybe negotiate it down to $5k at least?) and when the battery goes, put it a new one and you have a "new" Prius for less than $10k. Or install a salvaged battery and have a useable car for < $7k

    Our 2005 (Delivered 25th Oct 2004) is 8.5 years old with 200,000km on it (125,000 miles). It's the longest my parents have ever owned a vehicle (such is city life, the previous 2 of 3 vehicles were written off. The 2000 Corolla LE was the only one we traded in for a 2002 Camry XLE Pkg "B"). I've traded in my smart fortwo passion coupé for the 2010 Prius - great to drive... when it was in my possession lol.

    The 2005 is starting to used some oil and the interior (Bisque interior) is hold up well except for the armrest and centre console lid (which is a sore point for the Gen 2. It's been worn out since Year 5) and my mum has been thinking about getting it reupholstered but has held back because she wasn't sure if my dad would trade it in the Prius.

    My 2010 is gonna be with me for a while unless Toyota comes up with a mind blowing Gen 4 model. My 2010 Tech Pack has really all the features I wanted (except for LED headlights) and Toyota Canada has decontented the Prius since 2011 so I'm happy I have mine (good news for new buyers since that means a lower price point for the Prius but I like my features and technology).

    For my next Prius, I'm hoping to move into a PiP but it's contingent on the EV range, value (Base is $35k in Canada) and whether I can charge on 110V in a reasonable time (which is the advantage of the current PiP). If the rumours are true, then I'll have to make the decision between AWD and PiP (I assume they won't be inclusive because of weight, mpg, EV range or that Toyota wants to hit a price point).

    I'll keep mine for my standard 5 year, 180k miles. After that I'd have to see how it's still behaving. Once the payment is gone, the savings could be awesome if the car remains reliable.

    If I lose the obscene commute, the car is good as gone.

    My family tree doesn't have a good track record for longevity, so because I getting up there in age I was thinking that my 2010 Prius would outlive me. Both of my sibling have a Prius just like me. :)

    One of the reasons I bought a Prius is to learn how to hypermile.
    It's one of the things on my very short bucket list.:) :p
    I still haven't finished learning how to hypermile my current 2010 Prius.

    My high speed (>50 mph) hypermiling skills on the Prius are still pretty limited albeit it seems each year I'm learning more and getting better each year. I got 61 mpg over 627 miles on one tank going from Maryland to Michigan a few days ago (but on the way back I got only 53 mpg because I was slightly disoriented by the common cold).

    Sometime this year I hope to be part of the 99.9 mpg club.... or at least top my best tank on Priuschat. ;) :D

    I read that in NYC( but not so in CA or KS), TMC is pushing very generous PiP incentives...

    Plan on trading it for the next generation II Volt that sells for $7-10K less and gets a $10K federal tax credit. :)

    I definitely plan on driving this car until a new model entices me not to anymore. I am already just about to the 53,000 mile mark with a car I bought new in December, 2011, so I think by the time I do buy a new car, I should have a decent amount of mileage...it almost seems like a requirement to keep this car for a while. There is no shame in driving an old model around. :)

    It depends. When I am behind the wheel of my C I am very satisfied. Twice last week I managed 72 MPG on the back half of a 13 mile commute. This happened without trying and caused me to shake my head in wonder. But there are so many cars and so little time.... If the rumors about the 2015 Prius are true I might bite. If conditions were favorable I'd go for a Tesla.

    When I get a new one I am presently surprised by all the new technology.
