what's this white cottony stuff in my engine?

    wife had her 5000 mile scheduled maintenance on her C. afterwards we found this stuff in the engine. curious...we looked in my C (yes, we own 2 Prius C's haha...same dealer) and also found the same stuff in the same place:

    Wife wants to know what it is and what it's for. Google no help. My guess is that it's just something to catch grease or oil or something. anyone know? should I put it back? haha b/c I took it all out of both cars

    90% sure it's mice. The fluff probably came from somewhere in your garage. See this thread: Rear Ended and Rodent Damage | PriusChat

    I'd set traps/poison before they cause further problems. Rodents nibbling on wires can cause very expensive electrical problems that aren't covered by warranty.

    In case you need another confirmation: mouse nest! And that wire harness above it might become their next tasty snack.

    The engine's warmth provided the perfect place for mice to sleep. Hopefully they've been gone for a while, but they might just like the warmth overnight. Did you see any food or poop in the fluff?

    Take them out and check daily for evidence that the critters have returned. Put rat poison nearby. Possibly somewhere under the hood (this may or may not be a bad idea), so they find it when they come back looking for their nest.

    Set traps. In the meantime, don't park in the garage. Or, park in the garage but with the hood raised unit you think they're gone - someone (maybe in the other thread I posted) said mice avoid the area when the hood's raised because it's not as cozy.

    Ha! Wow not what I expected. Hey well I live in the country and that's a detached garage so not too surprising. Thanks for the info! Set traps haha will report results.

    I agree. The mouse may have a small brain but they are clever. It may take some advanced weapons and still the best you may hope for is a stalemate. You may get one or a few, but tens of thousands wait to replace them. No one has actually seen the alleged mouse. Just his bed.
