living in the Pacific Northwest, i have heard about a million "rain" jokes. but the rep we have here is very much undeserved. our area gets no more rain than many other cities near large bodies of water including Chicago and Detroit, both of which gets about the same amount of yearly precipitation.

but, this winter, it has been different. Tacoma, which is about 20 miles away, set a record for having like 36 straight days of rain...not quite bibical proportions but close. to say the least, it has really been coming down. flooding is rampant now, but will be much worse. Snoqualmie Pass had 287 inches of snow in Janurary alone! and the spring thaw is stacking up (at the rate of nearly a foot a day!) to be a major problem down here.

even the method of transportation has had to be re-thought. in fact, here is a pic of the newest "flood-resistant" transportation...sorry about the pic. was taken through the windshield in a driving rain...

It should be diverted to the S-E of England where reservoirs (especially in Kent) are said to have only 36% of average January level. Around here there has been virtually no rain at all in January. And no snow.

Yes, agree the NW is getting considerably more rain this year. I'm a bit concerned when yesterday I noticed a great number of animals travelling in pairs heading for the local shipyard.

I was amused by the 'prius in rain- didn't melt' that somebody posted awhile ago. My car has about 1500 miles on it, and it hasn't been driven OUT of the rain yet!

That was my main transport for 5 months waiting for the prius.

Only 98 hp, 62 mph max. But each axle locks individually it will go anywhere.

Great for the wet areas 28 inch water clearence.

Yep, the rain has been crazy so far this year. Now to add to the fun, we have heavy winds today.

I hate it when it rains sideways! Lost a bunch of limbs but no trees. The power is on and we are ready to win the Superbowl. It was not quite up to the Inauguration Day standard, or even close to the Hurricane force winds of the 62 Columbus day storm, but a few gusts got into the Hurricane level but not sustained. My best high milage route to work has water over the road to about 4" depth at one point. It is right at the bottom of a perfect glide hill I can get 3/4 of the up the other side before I have to touch the gas. Now I have to slow down and waste all that inertia. The moss and mold is doing very well and I for one could use a few days of dry weather.

No, it's driven daily, in the rain. I said not driven out OF the rain, not out IN the rain!
