Where's the thing that goes "beep"?

You know the beeper that warns you that the passenger hasn't fastened their seat belt — or, more to the point, beeps at you infuriatingly when you have your laptop bag on the passenger seat...

I'm hoping someone can tell me exactly where this little beeper is, or at least how I can find the wires leading to it, so I can install a temporary cutoff switch.

Just to clarify: I don't need instructions on how to deactivate the beeper (with the trick involving holding down the ODO button when powering up, etc.) because I think the beep's a good thing to have occasionally. I want to install a manual temporary override that cuts off the beeper whatever the cause (including open door, for example). My plan is to insert a relay activated by a flip-flop (bistable multivibrator if you want to get all "engineery" about it) from a momentary switch. It needs to be inserted into the wire(s) leading to the beeper.

Well it can't be buried *too* deep in the dash, as it has to be clearly audible. But no matter how or where I poke my head under the dash I can't localize it. Very frustrating.

i think you'll have to tear the dash apart and go exploring. i don't recall any threads about anyone locating it.

The main beeper, called "buzzer" by Toyota, is located on the combination meter, which is the bit that is under the dash, above the steering column. There is a bit of disassembly to get to it, covered in various youtubes and elsewhere. The beeper is soldered directly onto the board, so not simple to just cut wires.

There are also beepers as part of the Skid control ECU, as part of the wireless SKS, and a theft deterrent under the hood.

why dont you just find the wires that go to the pressure sensor in the seat and disconnect one to leave the circuit open? you get to keep the beep for other things

It looks like the seat belt detector switch goes to the combination meter, by way of the center airbag sensor ECU. The pressure sensors in the seat, in the usual (IMHO over-engineered) would be hard to sort out. One would not want to disable air bag function.
