I am a Maryland PiP owner looking trying to understand his sale sheet/contract... specifically how it should look for PiP owners in Maryland in relation to the excise tax credit. If you are a PiP owner, could you help me to understand how a (correctly) filled out contract should look? My questions:

    1. Did you apply for your excise tax credit with the State of Maryland or did your dealer complete this application. In other words, did the check come to you or to them? If it was to the dealer, did you sign something that authorized them to apply for it on your behalf?
    2. Was excise tax paid (listed as local taxes?) on your sales contract? Or was it listed as $0 or "n/a"?
    3. Was the Maryland Excise Tax Credit listed anywhere on your sale sheet as a credit back to you, and if so, where?
    4. Who was your dealer if you could share this?

I don't intend these questions as invasive to you - just looking for some information.

Thanks very much for any help you could provide!

    John,

I will take a look at my sales sheet when I get home tonight to help answer your questions. I can't recall for sure how all the credits worked. I just know I had to submit my Fed Tax Credit with my Tax guy. Got that without issue.

My understanding is " Tax Credit" towards your income tax.
Depending on your tax bracket, you may be eligible for a refund.

I speak specifically about the Maryland state tax credit toward the excise tax (like sales tax) on the vehicle.... which is different/independent of any Federal programs, just to be clear. Thanks again.

Bought my PiP in Frederick Md. Darcars. I paid tax. It states near the bottom as Title tax. Then I applied for the rebrusement of the excise tax through DMV. Got it in about 2 weeks. I photo copied my invoice ( I believe I called them to see if I needed any supporting material and that is what they told me to do). Also at the same time send in the HOV Sticker application, it is free and has just been extened to 2017....for free.

See the Federal and State Incentives sticky thread. Unfortunately the MD plug-in excise tax credit was cancelled back in March_2013 due to lack of funding. I think it was originally supposed to run through to until about June_2013. We had posted a warning here a couple days before the expiration, which was all the notice we had here from MD PiP owners (who had received "heads up" letters from their Toyota dealers).

If there is any update, please let me know. It has been a bleak spring here in the Northeast re: incentives:( . We lost PiP incentives in MD and West Virginny and my crazy state Virginia adopted an extra fee (anti-incentive:eek: ) on hybrids and plug-ins. That leaves us with PA at $1000 PiP incentive in the Northeast.

Does it sound like the excise tax credit was recently re-instated at a lower amount ($600 for PiP)?
Yes the good news is it sounds like there is a new Plug-In tax credit for fiscal 2014. But I don't know when fiscal 2014 starts (July_2013?) or if purchases between March 16 (end of 2013 program) and July 1 quality. Sounds like it's worth a try.
