You obviously don't work in the service department.

I got GAP for $795 and VSA Extra Care Extended Warranty for $2,250. From the posts on this thread, I feel very ripped off. The best route is to cancel them and find better deals elsewhere, right? Only had my car for 6 days now. But I'm bummed about still having to pay tax for the unused portions. I'll ask about that when I cancel.

Well I feel like a sucker. As much as I told myself I wasn't going to get the extended warranty, I still did. I tried telling the Finance Manager that I had read the Toyota website and it stated Hybrid parts 100,000 miles, but she claimed no, everything was at 36 months 36,000 miles. She had said the Platinum plan was for 8 year 125,000 miles and covers everything with no deductible and includes road side assistance that will tow your car to the nearest Toyota. The price, a wopping 2500.00, but after my hesitation she marked it down to 2400.00. Oh what a deal. Anywho 8 years is a pretty good amount of time. As much as I feel like I've been had, I don't have to worry about something going wrong down the road. With Geico, they tow you to the closest garage no matter what type of vehicle you have. Oh heck no! I really don't feel comfortable letting anyone other than Toyota to touch my car. Sure my overall price of the car has gone up, but the car in general is a big expense, I would rather have piece of mind now than a costly expense later on for repair.

Maybe I didnt look closely enough, but I only paid 700 bucks for the warranty extension and that included oil changes and tire rotations every 10,000 miles for six years... Pays for itself, in my opinion. Peace of mind is worth a lot of money, deductible or not. I didn't need gap, but it might have been my LTV. I hear is worth it in the worst case scenario. No one wants to pay for a car they don't drive!

Are you sure that is the extended warranty you bought? It sounds like the prepaid maintenance plan.

For my perspective it sounds like both... I'm awaiting further documentation. I bought her Saturday.

How many years is the extended warranty supposed to be, 6 years?

I too think its for the maintenance plan. My question is, is that 6 years in addition to the 2 free or 6 total?

I just pulled my paperwork. I was flat out lied to when I was told the hybrid components were only covered 3/36000. It's 8/100,000. I was charged $2000 for VSA and $799 for GAP. Canceling tomorrow!!!

  11. Unfortunately the salesmen will say anything, many are totally irresponsible. Double check everything on Priuschat. Take no car dealers word for anything, until you have personally checked it out. Are all dealerships, salesmen, mechanics not to be trusted. NO, not entirely, as Reagan used to say: Trust, but, VERIFY !

Man, if I ever caught a sales guy lying to me like that during the sales process, I would abandon the car, even if it was the only PiP in the entire state. That's just wrong :( Let us know if you had any trouble canceling, and definitely file a complaint with Toyota and the dealer management (assuming they aren't in on this).

"Insurance: An ingenious modern game of chance in which the player is permitted to enjoy the comfortable conviction that he is beating the man who keeps the table." - Ambrose Bierce

Have you ever wondered why the biggest buildings in a major city always have the names of insurance companies on them? Because the house always wins. You know buying insurance that you are taking the wrong side of the bet.

I believe you should only insure what you can't afford to lose. Probably your house. Maybe your life if someone is depending on your income. But to insure against car repairs? Absolutely not.

It is going to sound condescending but if you can't afford a car repair your probably can't afford a car. And if you have Prius C you can afford a car so odds are you can afford a repair. Not that you would want to but you could if you had to. Keep your money - don't buy a building for an insurance company.

Or maybe we bought a new car so that we wouldn't have to worry about a repair for a few years...

That's what I never understood when I purchased my first new car at the dealership. I was young and naive then and the dealer was trying to sell me this insurance. I'm buying a new car for the peace of mind that it won't break down.

This insurance made no sense to me. If I'm afraid the new car might break down I might as well keep my old car. I'll have thousands of dollars that I didn't use to buy the new car to pay for the repair. I'll rent a car if I need reliability on long distance trips.

Years later, I understand it now. Some people want more peace of mind. It's kind of like taking pills to lose weight or paying someone to fill out a 1040EZ form for you. Some people like to tinker, some don't. Just make sure you get the price for it.

That funny! I purchased a 5YR 100K Platinum with the Zero deductible for $780.00 I also canceled it due to all the stipulations.
A true warranty wouldn't dictate where you can have the car repaired. It also would cover diagnostic time and other labor hours. This warranty isn't the same as the older Toyota warranty. It's a total ripp-off, IMO

    ugh.
Can I cancel it after 6 months?!
I was conned by a fast talker.
My first new car purchase, so I had no idea how slick the dealer could be.

still love my 2013 PII though!!
